Does anyone have the H9 Sundowner F1 with Evolution 26 or 35 gas with tuned pipe. I just started building the Sundowner and I have the Evolution 26gx with tuned pipe from Horizon Hobby. I have a couple of DA50s and one Evolution 45gx2 with pitts mufflers. Any information on tuned pipes and the Sundowner would be appreciated.
Thanks, George G. Royal |

No help on the pipe, but I'm curious to know if a DA50 fits in the cowl. Got a buddy flying the little 'downer wanting to make the step up to gas/giant scale, and he drools over my DA- and refuses to put anything in the air using the 'manufacturer recommended powerplant
I told him to go with the F1-legal evo 35 but he has a problem with me having a bigger engine haha.As a side note, USRA does not allow tuned pipes (Rule 4.7.2), if you plan to race. |

Evolution replaced the 35 with a 40. There are Sundowners with DA50s, you have do a lot more cutting on the cowling. The weight is about the same, but the Evolutions turn over 9000 rpm. I have 2 DA50s and with the carb modification, they are really smooth running engines. The DA50 is not for high speed planes, but I can hover all day in my AW Extra 260 or PAU Edge 540. If you want speed, go with the Evolution engines. I chose the 26 because it weights about a pound less and that is the recommended gas engine. When I fly the Sundowner, I will post the results.

Very nice, and thanks for the info. I'm going to link this thread to him. I didn't know the evos turned that fast, he'll like to know that as well.

What carb mod are you referring to on the DA 50? Thanks.
