I for one beleive in them in the summer our temps can reach 110+ and to not have a pop up would be crazy. our club doesn't seem to oppose them at event in fact they reccomend that you bring them to the events or we try to let the out of town guests get the areas under the shade structure that is at our field we are fortunate enough to have a lare shade structure at our flying site. i fyou ever been to redding ca than you know how hot it gets.

Well, since we went that way... I like the "shade-tech" from kmart, or even a
tractor supply store (TSC)-- you can find the 10'x10' for anywhere between $59-$79.
(blue tarp, white frame) been using one for over a year now, and still holding up...
(oh, don't we all wish we got paid for the advertising?)

Now, back to the topic...

By all means, stake and use tiedowns...... I usually stake the feet and tie
with bungy cords or rope to our fence... makes it nice and sturdy.....

--The beef?--

--- well all I get is
"It's a safety hazard and people aren't going to be paying attention under
them, to the activity thats going on around them." One guy even thinks he's
going to taxi or fly into them while taking off/landing with a plane...
sadly to say, this is usually a .40 size nitro trainer too....... hmmmm
I don't think it matters whether theres a canopy there or not in that scenairo...
Pilots are usually with their aircraft in the pits regardless of canopy or not.....
I would rather hit a canopy anyday as opposed to a person or aircraft!
Sounds like someone needs to learn what the Left thumb (mode2) does! "RUDDER"

I myself, really don't understand what they're getting at,
but I feel safer under my canopy as I said in the first post on this thread....
I'm under a partial metal cage to absorb some of the energy from a
potentially stray aircraft or failure to control dumb thumb scenario...
Might just save my brain pan a little! - you never know

While under the canopy, I'm usually watching aircraft
flying around.... same as I do without the canopy....
for my love of anything that flies is just such an obsession.......
So...... what's the diff?

Remember, I need any pros and cons of these canopies
being used in the pits....

Anything good besides trying to prevent heat exhaustion and staying dry if it rains? (oh- the sporatic summer showers- lol) Been through enough of those here in Ohio!

Anyting Bad, besides a dumb thumber flying into them, even though they're allready behind the flight line breaking a major rule, and out of control in the first place?

Any stories and/or experiences? --- list'em please!

C'mon everybody, get involved..... add your 2-cents!

If you use your canopy at an event, or your club while flying,
let not just myself, but everybody in my club know...
Help me show my club how popular these are, and how much we actually use them.
I want to avoid having the club board "restrict these to our parking lot,
or ban these from our facillity all together" as it seems this is where this is heading.
I would like to print this thread out for my next club meeting,
and have them read the replies...
I have a lot of members that don't "get out" to other flying sites much.....
or even websites for that matter..... lot of "technology impared OFR's".....
(no internet, or don't know how to use it, and afraid of "change")

Son if you have members that can't take off or land without hitting a canopy then your club has bigger problems then this. Who certifies these guys to fly solo??? Our entire pit area is covered with a canopy.

Well here goes, Old know all fart thinks he owns the field and spends more time harassing members than flying. You know these guys, we call em the shadow. Nobody wants to hang out at the main shelter cause he,s there and we all have heard he,s opinions time and time again, like a skipping record. Well guess what ? He doesn,t want you to have a pop-up cause then you don,t have to hear his crap any more. You are not social anymore. You are splitting the club in to sects, Gassers Electrics Seniors ect.... But the real problem is " THE SHADOW" He wants to force you to be his friend, while he interrupts you and tells the same crap over and over. I prefer the pop-up. No safety issue just " THE SHADOW" trying to impose his will on you. Huck fim Yeah I like that Huck fim Huck Fim The pros out weight the cons 300 to 1 Shadow. You gotta get all the club member support you can and vote them in before The Shadows shut you down ANDY RUNEY HUCK FIM TUCK FHEM { pig latin}
