Well said, Raven04... You know I'm not givin' in......
My Jap-a-leno eatin' freind (Al Lewis) had a good point.... (may I get my award and join the Wesse Power club when I get hard enough-- I got indigestion just watching your video this morning from and earlier date in the "What hard men do" thread.) Who did solo this guy? I know I had to prove my solo in front of 3 whitnesses when I started.... and this "shadow" as people seemed to name him (funny) was in the club long before I came around. Re-solo flight tests in the near future? Last edited by Pakratt76; 12-20-2008 at 08:42 AM. |

and yes that is a real plane on display. its a T-33 we have, that we restored and have on display. this plane was transferred from Wright-Patterson Air Force Base to NASA, It transported astronauts between Cape Canaveral, Florida and Houston, Texas (among the notables to fly the aircraft was Apollo I astronaut Gus Grissom) the link for the info on the restoration is - http://www.flyjcrc.com/T-33%20Project.htm |

PROs WORK ON PLANE IN SHADE NOT ON A PICKNIC TABLE IN SOMEONES WAY RAIN MAY ACTUAL PROVIDE SOME ADDITIONAL SAFTEY FROM OUT CONTROL PLANES OR THE SUNS ULTRAVOILET RAYS PLEAD THAT YOU HAVE MILD CASE OF LOOPESS not sure how thats spelled but it is a real medical condition that is aggvated by direct sunlight. If you don,t feel there is a movement to ban the pop-ups, you may consider making a motion at the most hottest time of the summer durning a meeting. We had some issues at our club and it was resolved when the club as a whole decided to install two additional metal awning type shade shelters, one out 30 feet to each side of the main shelter. These were designated as work areas. Haven,t needed my first-up since. But use it at other fields durning FunFlys. The shelters we add were 18 x 30 and had 8 foot eves. kinda like the ones you see for 600 bucks to park a car under. Our cost was a little over 3000 for the two. Heavy gage metals extra height.

This is wrong! I went down this road before with this club! It was quite a few years ago, but one of the old guys started telling me I could not set up my canopy on the flight line side of the fence! He said only aiplanes & equipment in the pits. I told him it is equipment... it's for keeping the sun off my plane. I was told by one of the younger members to go ahead, and he will take care of it.
I've been around this club and some of it's members since I was 8 years old. I have seen it go through many changes and tough times. I hope this will pass, because I realy like going to events there, but if I can't put up my canopy, I may have to think twice about going! Their Big bird show is in Aug! When is your next meeting? Maybe I can come and give a non-member's point of view. Scott Last edited by rcflyguy; 12-20-2008 at 04:26 AM. |

Well, RCFlyGuy....
You are still the son of a member... ![]() And regardless, you are always welcome to any meeting! You can see when and where any meeting is on the homepage of our club on the lower left side... www.torcm.net I try to keep it up to date as best as possible.... Also, I'm still the club Treasurer, and fighting for everything I believe in. I'm not the youngest board member at age 32, but 5 of them are a lot older than me... and sometimes, I just seem to get glared at like I'm crazy... Safety is one thing, but theres a limit where it becomes not safety anymore but a paranoya based burden that ruins it for everyone. Another thing... I'm with Raven04 on the Lynn Cole Fly-in in the 3rd weekend of July..... I'm the head of the Lynn Cole Fly-in Committee.... This canopy thing with the older people is out of proportion... if we want a true safety issue..... I would worry about these wooden starting and/or assembly tables in our pit area. It scares the bejeeezus out of me when a few of those guys start a 1/4 scale or 80" and above aircraft on these, and while it's running, they lift them off and set on the ground..... the uprights that set against the wings are so high, that it's pretty near but not impossible to smacking the running prop...... that's my paranoya...... grendading prop schrapnel... that could get ugly........ I just keep my mouth closed, and consider well, he's the only one there, let him learn the "hard" way..... Sure these are great accessories, but if you want to tune, and/or assemble, do it there.... but shut down, place on the ground....restrain.... and then fire back up...... that's my only point.... makes sense to me..... I LOVE MY SHADE CANOPIES!!! |

Yeah Music was just killed at my field by the SHADOW and a few ole cronies. Seems they made some phone calls the week before the meeting, suggesting that my music was way too loud and obnoxious. Truth is I made a special request and asked all the members present if I could play A song to practise a routine for upcoming demo flys at funflys , and promptly turned music off after my flight. The Shadow doesn,t like large gassers and makes me feel unwelcome every weekend. He can do no wrong, if I defend myself or make him uncomfortable then I,m the trouble maker. I did go after him. And the members at the same meeting had a cou and I was dropped as the President. I may have deserved that cause of my hateful methods, to make him feel uncomfortable as well. So all I can say is what ever you do please take the high road, and don,t compromise your integrity. Hate breeds hate. So you want turn your music up and piss a few people off, will get you bad results. You need member support at meetings, not pissed off ole cronies. These guys are glow guys and I support them and there planes 100% And Expect there support as well. I hear people say things like I hate helis or gassers all the time. These people should support all aspects of the hobby or find themselves discriminated against later. Nobody wants to step up to the plate and stop the hate. Its always tic for tac back in forth. Ever time you say something negative at the club you are making someone else feel unwelcome. Pure hate, and you will get hate back, as I did. I learned my leason! You gotta take the high road hear. Every time I go to the club one individual will say he doesn,t like BIG PLANES every time! He is planting seeds and every chance he gets he states that we almost broke a rule are what we do is dangerous. If I don,t support my hate spreading gasser buddies, I ,m sitting on the fence or azz kissing and if I don,t support the shadow I,m a troublemaker. Stuck between a rock and a hard place. IF YOU DON,T LIKE THE CLUB YOU ARE AT< FIND SOMEWHERE ELSE TO FLY. If you keep spreading hate you will end up doing just that. I don,t mention the club because the club doesn, t make me feel unwelcome, just a couple of indiviauls at the club. I ,m a member of more than one club, and have a back-up plan. Support the glow guys, helis, electrics warbirds pattern ect... and they may support you. And thats what you need to stop ole cronies from spreading there hate.

Man, when it comes to fighting the old guys in a club, it can be a tuff haul.
I did this when I first moved into big birds. To them, they were unsafe. It was OK for a fellow club member to have one, but he was older. I was a young pup and they felt I didn't have the money to be flying big planes. I never understood how they could determine that I could not afford the big planes. They just put up every obsticale for me. It always pissed me off, how I had to meet their concerns and then they would find another issue to bitch about. Noise, size, safety, my flying style, and I flew Pattern competition back then, so it was always smooth flying and nothing like 3D flying we do today. I just gave up and went to another club to fly to fly big ones. Today, the club flies mostly big planes, but that was not until the younger guys started running the club and had enough votes to get thing passed. As for the issue you are having, I would be lost without the use of my EZ-UP at the flying field. My planes stay under the tent until I am ready to fly. My planes spend more time under the EZ-up then I do. I myself have been to many flyins in the last 20 yrs and I have only seen a couple times when tents were not allowed in the pit area. And you quessed it, those clubs were run by older guys. If safety is the worry, and I understand safety can be an issue. Maybe try to get them to go for a trail period. It can be hard to prove to them that the tents on the pit side of the fence is not a problem, it is the guy on a box that is not capable of flying safely. Can something go wrong with any of our planes....Yes, and being on the other side of a pit fence and sitting under the tent is not going to make you any safer. Well, all I can say, is keep bringing up the topic and working on getting guys on your side of the fence. Good Luck. Been there.

If I can't take a canopy to get out of the sun,,,,,,,you will have the field all to yourself.
Everything bad about clubs. Life is too short for BS. |

Actually, myself, I missed the last board / club meeting night for January 13,
our next one is Tuesday Feb 10th, 2009 BUT........... ... however on our Snowball fly-in on Jan 1st, '09 we pulled a little board meeting, since we had a majority of board members present at the field, to discuss this exact matter.........and while standing on the pit lines by the safety fence, we came to an agreement to keep canopies in the pits ...... Canopies are allowed in the pits! Just as before! Done Deal... |
