What ever happened to the Giles planes? Why does nobody fly these anymore? Here are a few full scale pics I took at Arlington EAA Flyin and a pic of my Ohio RC Ultimate I used the Giles 202 scheme on!!!

Depends a lot on what size Giles you want to fly. Wild Hare markets an absolutely wonderful 41% wood arf that easily fits in the back of a long bed pick up. IMAC and 3d are as good as your ability to fly them. There's currently some talk about coming out with a 50cc version.

The big problem is that the "planes of the moment" are Yaks and Extra 260's. Do the fly better than the Giles? If you practice the same with any of them probably not. The Giles was designed around pattern type maneuvers, which is what IMAC is all about. But since Joe Blow has a Yak, so then does everyone else need a Yak to be competitive. It's a psychology thing I suppose. You can't win unless you fly what so and so does.

Out of the 4 35% planes I have ready to fly the 35% Lanier Giles 202 92" w\s with a 3w 80 twin is a blast to fly. It weights in at 24.5lbs and is slightly tail heavy. It is the first plane I fly and sometimes the only plane to fly when I am at the field. The looks of a Giles and a Cap 232 are nice to see in the air. Everbody warned me of the Giles being snap happy and doesn't 3D worth a crap. I just don't have a problem with mine. As far as doing 3D stuff it is fine for me but I am not that good at it anyway. Might not be the latest and greatest but it does fly good.

I also fly a WildHare 40% Giles and I've got to say its probably the best all around flying plane there is. 26 to 27# with a 100 and its ballistic.

That was not me. Long story short. I was standing with Jason Shulman on the 2.4 line at the Nall this year and a man came up to us and needed some pics for a mag with a plane over the water. The transmitter was handed to Jason without delay. It gathered a very large crowd if I remember correctly.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that the MX2 and MXS by MX Technologies are direct descendants of the Giles.

It is, but quite different in it's own ways.

The guy that designed the Giles was not Dave von Linsowe. I work with the designer of the full scale Giles and he definately isn't a Dave.

I had an Airwild giles 300 with a DA 100 last year and it met an untimely demise after a dozen flights or so. It was a fun plane and I would love to try another Giles in the future.

I had the 40% WH Giles and sold it after 40 flights. It was the worst IMAC plane i ever had. Overotate during snap rolls and it needed a lot of knife edge coupling and mixes to fly straight. Very Good 3D plane for those you like freestyle.

I am not saying the WH Giles is a bad plane but simply the design of the plane does not match with my flying style. I am addicted to Extra 260...

Do you have pics of this plane ? What lightening mods did you do to get it that light.?
