Default Airplane on a conveyor belt - Mythbusters

Yep... it's on Mythbusters again.... the old "can an airplane take off on a conveyor belt" discussion.......

If an airplane is on a conveyor, and the belt is going at the takeoff speed of the plane... will it take off?

Any Takers?

No. It's the speed of the air over the wings. Not the speed of the wheels.

The last episode was about a conveyor going in the opposite direction of the aircraft at the aircraft's take-off speed, and the aircraft took off just fine. So if that is the debate, debate over - the plane will take off.

I used to look up to the people on Discovery...now I know they're a bunch of morons with no engineering skills or common sense.

Mike Rowe's cool, tho.
