This is one of my Best Friends in the modeling world. Warren Cross. He typically builds a few planes a year. This was his latest that I only saw when it was in the box. He sent me the pictures of his maiden flight since I wasn't in Vegas anymore to see it.

The kit is powered with a 3W70 on a cannister. And knowing him, it has JR servos and a spektrum outfitted RX. Said it was just over 36lbs

So do I. I wish I could get back to Vegas and fly this thing. He's already promised some stick time the next time I'm in town!

I had the honor of putting the maiden flight on this beauty...
There was a whopping 3 mph gale blowing straight down the runway, and the temp was a bone chilling 70 degs. and not a cloud in the sky!
So, what the heck. I throttled up the mighty 3W 75, and the tail came up immediately, and that Fokker(sp?) was airborne in it"s own length, approx 6 ft.
The plane flys prototypically, i.e., a piece of cake! Nice and slow and very stable.
The landing speed was no more than a brisk walk!..
Durng the 2nd flight, everybody got a turn on the sticks, and no one was disappointed!
So, Sweetpee, I think you'll be OK with it; at least with close supervision!..

Old Dawg,
Long Live Team Vegas!

HI GUYS, SANTA JUST BROUGHT ME ONE OF THESE 1/3 FOKKER D-7 KITS FOR CHRISTMAS. WHAT A MONSTER!!! I CAN'T WAIT TO GET BUILDING.

DOES ANYONE KNOW IF THE OUTLINE OF THIS BALSA USA D-7 IS PRETTY SCALE???? I WAS GOING TO TRY TO BUILD IT AS SCALE AS POSSIBLE. I CAN SEE THAT IT HAS FLAT BOTTOM WINGS WHEN THE REAL FOKKER HAD CURVED BOTTOM WINGS.

ALSO, I KNOW THE KIT BOX SAYS 40-45LB & 50-80CC ENGINE, BUT I AM GOING TO TRY TO FLY IT W/ A SUPER TIGRE 4500. I THINK I CAN GET THE WEIGHT DOWN A LITTLE BIT. I'M USED TO GLOW ENGINES. I DON'T THINK A SINGLE CYLINDER 4 STROKE GLOW ENGINE EXISTS THAT IS BIG ENOUGH FOR THIS PLANE. CAN ANYONE ADVISE.

THANKS SO MUCH

If u go real slow and try to cut out as much extera wood etc,u can get it down to the mid to hi 30s. Use Jerry Nelson lit fab and dont paint anything that do need it. Mine was 35.2 pds. With eqp as stated by sweetpee above. Follow the building book to the letter and u will b rewarded witha fine flying and good looking plane. I f u desire to ask me anything about the plane e mail me at wlcross@hotmail.com,and I will be very happy to help you or anwser any questions that may pop up. I am the builder of the plane.

A plane such as this, done to scale, will take anywhere from 4 months to a year or more to complete. Everyone always wants to see a build thread with pictures and explanations, which can add a couple of months of time to a real build. I've done a few buid threads and even did a full lay out on an old Phaeton Bipe once.

The problem is you have to be in it for love because you never get anything back for all the additional time and effort expended in documenting and posting. I certainly can't fault someone for not donig all the freebie build thread work.

HI, I'M MARK FROM ANNAPOLIS, MARYLAND. SANTA BROUGHT ME ONE OF THESE FOR XMAS (HE NEEDED AN EXTRA SLED TO GET IT HERE. HUGE & HEAVY BOX!!!) I WAS WONDERING ABOUT THE BUILD WEIGHT. BALSA USA SAYS 40 TO 45LB. I FOUND THIS THREAD & I KNEW IT COULD COME IN LIGHTER. I AM AN OLD SCHOOL GLOW FUEL GUY. I NEVER WANTED TO GO TO GAS FOR FEAR OF FIRE SURROUNDING THE CLUB FIELD IN AN EVENT OF A CRASH W/ A GASSER). ANYWAY, BALSA USA SPECS SAYS 50CC TO 80CC. I AM PUTTING A SUPER TIGRE G4500 IN MINE. IT'S A 45CC ENGINE, JUST 5CC SHORT OF THE BALSA USA SPEC. I WANTED TO KNOW IF ANYONE OUT THERE COULD ADVISE ME THAT, IF I KEEP THE PLANE AT UNDER 35LB, WOULD THE G4500 HAVE ENOUGH JUICE TO FLY IT SCALE (AND SAFE). I'M NOT LOOKING FOR PATERN PLANE SPEED, JUST NICE SLOW REALISTIC SCALE LOOPS, ETC.... CAN ANYONE HELP. I PLAN TO START IT IN A MONTH OR SO. THANKS SO MUCH

brtguy, IF u build real lite, and use the nelson lite fab u can come in about 35 pds or less, the 4500 is lighter than my 3W75 and cannister,so 33 pds is possable. As far as peformance with the 4500 would be just marginal in MY opinion. But hey u got the motor use it and see. Any questions on the build give me a email,@wlcross@hotmail.com
