Pilot-RC Development History
(Sent to FG from Pilot RC) Pilot-RC started operation in March of 2008. Tony and Elvis are the owners of Pilot-RC. Tony is a crazy RC fanatic. Elvis is an expert in building giant scale airplanes. Elvis worked in the model building industry since 1996. working in different model factories from 1996-2002 learning much about the industry. Elvis worked as the development manager at Sammy Lee's factory in Shenzhen. in 2002 Sammy's factory begin to build a new brand of giant scale airplanes named TOC1 (later to become Aviation Models and then SD in 2005) Elvis was the production manager of SD model since 2004. So for the past four years Elvis has gained rich experiences designing, producing, inspecting quality control, and ensuring great flight performance. Tony knew Elvis since 2005 when Tony just began to fly RC planes. They became good friends and often flew together. Elvis made a decision to leave SD/TT models and do something new. One Jan 1 of 2008, Tony flew with Elvis. They spoke about the model aviation industry in China. They discussed the many model factories currently in China. These Chinese factories build many giant scale planes for many of the well-know US brands. They also discussed that there was no Chinese company that was entirely based in China that was known for a high quality product in the world market. Tony presented an idea to Elvis , and asked why didn't they start a new Chinese brand of giant scale plane? Elvis and Tony agreed it could be done and done well, so in March of 2008 Pilot RC was born. The Pilot RC factory was started in March of 2008. The factory was 10,760 sq ft. They bought all the tooling machines in March 2008. In the very beginning there was only four workers besides Elvis and Tony. But as the company grew so did the factory which is now 21,500 sq ft . Pilot also added quite a few workers which totals over 60 now. From a meager start with one laser cutting machine, Pilot has grown to house three laser cutting machines. Pilot RC started to draw highly skilled workers in the RC industry in China. Nice working conditions, higher pay and a happy work environment made the workers have a pride in their work. And this shows in the final product pilot is offering. Both Tony and Elvis have worked for other companies. they know what it feels like to be under appreciated and how it is to work in less than appealing conditions. So at Pilot RC they make sure the workers are happy. Pilot RC offers the workers cool water fountains, company wide air-condition, and a break room with a TV and other amenities. Also, the worker’s are offered room and board at no charge to them. You can not find these kind of conditions in any other model manufacturing plant in China. Pilot RC knows that building model airplanes is a skilled craft. Most of the work is done by hand and not by a machine. The best plane can only be built with pride by a happy worker. So they will always do their best to offer good conditions to the workers. The current production line of Pilot RC airplane's was designed by Elvis, with the assistance of the general public. The public gave feedback and suggestions and Pilot RC listened. The first plane produced by Pilot RC was the 87” YAK. After a few prototypes, it was finished on April 15th 2008. The Yak flew very well, and so Pilot RC begin the first production run. As Pilot RC grows they aim to design more aerobatic planes and Warbirds. Pilot will always pay the most attention to development, Elvis and Tony believe that it is the most important department in the pilot RC factory. Elvis and Tony are true RC fans. They know what a good model airplane is and how it should fly. When Pilot RC builds an ARF, they want it to be as easy as possible to assemble, to make the Pilot RC experience a comfortable one for even the first time giant scale pilot. To assist with the build, all Pilot RC planes will have pre-installed hinges, ,pre-installed pull-pull wires with ball links attached, a pre-mounted canopy, a pre-mounted fuel tank and fuel dot. Also pilot RC includes a very complete hardware package. Pilot RC wants the customer to have the best experience with the least amount of work. Pilot RC pays strict attention to the service of the customer. They know the most important thing is the quality of their product, and the quality of their service. Pilot RC will do what they can to ensure customer satisfaction. They realize that to compete in a world market they must offer the best service to their customers. pilot RC gets that Quality and service are the life line of the company. A unique service that Pilot RC offers is the custom scheme option. For a few dollars more, Pilot RC will make the airplane of your choice in your custom scheme. (Schemes must not be copies of other available ARF manufacturers) once the scheme mock up is approved by the customer, the custom scheme option only adds around ten business days to the shipment of your airplane! All Pilot RC airplane designs are flight tested by ruff pilots. This is demonstrated in the Demo videos available on the Pilot RC website. Pilot RC only produces a design after it has been proven that the design is TOUGH and a great flying airplane. Pilot RC will be specializing in giant scale aerobatic and WWII ARF planes. They currently offer the Yak 54, Extra 300, Katana, and Extra 260. available in sizes rangeing from 50cc up to 210cc. Carbon Fiber parts like spinners, landing gear, wing tubes, and tail wheel assemblies are standard on most planes. The aerobatic planes feature laser cut balsa and plywood construction with fiberglass cowl, hatch and wheel pants. Covering is Ultracote. Complete hardware sets include pushrods, control horns, servo arms and tires. A complete fuel system with fuel filter and fuel dot is factory installed! A 50cc Hellcat warbird is in the works with a fiberglass fuselage and fiberglassed wood wings. Watch for Pilot RC to bring out other great products in the future. www.pilot-rc.com

Will Pilot be releasing a 40% Extra 260 anytime soon? I love the fact that you can design your own covering. Can these be ordered with out covering?

Great Article!!!
I have often wondered about the Airplane ARF industry from a Factory perspective. I often hear different stories of how these planes are made in bulk in a factory environment by machines and factory covered by machines at the Flying Fields and Events. But it appears this is not the case with RC-PILOT as the pictures prove their is quite a bit if not all done by hand. Which is where the skilled factory workers come into play. One day, I would like to see a video or write up on quality ARF planes and the various stages and processes they go through within a factory. Congratulations to RC-PILOT on their start up. I look forward to their product line. And many thanks again for the write-up. Very enlightening. TC |

Interesting how they have the wings stacked up on top of each other on the boxes...
Seems to me they are one bump away from having to do some repairs...![]() Although I don't know where else you would stack them, maybe up against a wall if it isn't totally devoted to fuselages.Cool write up. I liked the way my Aviation Models Yak flew! ![]()

Pilot RC, well done and I for one see the quality craftsmanship in your planes. I have a 40% SD yak from 07' that I modified and still fly today. It is a great plane. http://www.flyinggiants.com/forums/f...ls-40-yak.html
I also would like to know if its possible to get them in ARC version before covering or any of the quick build assembly that is done at your factory. I wish you the best of luck with this product. |
