Hey Guys,
I am wondering what your opinion would be as far as a receiver for a EF 50cc Extra 300. I have been saving hard for this plane, and am trying to get one in time for a local freestyle competition. I won't be able to save enough to get the plane and a 2.4 radio in time for the competition, so I will be flying it with a Futaba 7C FM radio. With this in mind, what do you all suggest? I want the safest system possible for FM. I don't want to take any chances. I realy apreciate your input. Thanks guys, Daniel |

Whatever receiver you get, PCM modulation is the only way to go if you're using 72 mhz. I'm using a Futaba R138PCM (9channel) with my Futaba 9C Rx.

Thanks for the reply! I don't know if there is a PCM module that I could get for the Futaba 7C. Is PCM safer than FM, other than frequency? Thanks, Daniel

Be that as it may the 7C is still a PCM tx. You just have to tell it to be. But remember if you are going from one plane to another and one is PPM and the other is PCM you will have to turn the tx off and then on to switch modes.

Let me dig out my 7C and see. Someone will probably jump in here before I remember but its the thought that counts.

OK just go into the basic memory and turn the nob until PARAMETR shows up in the screen, select it and choose PCM . You can do this for each individual plane. So the plane you have on your screen is the one that will be effected by the change.
Hope this helps. I would dig out the book but its out in the shop and you know what the weather is like. Tom |

Oh and Daniel; please don't tell me that all those flying vids of yours are done without any programed mixes or at least dual rates because if thats the case then I am going to go back to a Mombo and compound escapement :-)

Daniel, on 72mhz I would highly recommend a 148DP or 149DP receiver. You should be able to find them for sale in the swap shop here. If not, PM me and I'll sell you one of my 149DP. Range-check is pretty incredible with these receivers. When and where is the freestyle contest?

Hey Guys,
Thanks a lot for the info! I just went in and found how to change it. When I have it on PCM mode, can I use any PCM Rx? I have a 2% elevator to rudder mix on the foamy. On the Extra 300 I have none. Please don't go back to the Mombo and compound escapement - I have no idea what that is, but it doesn't sound good! LOL :-) I'll definately check into those receivers that you suggested. Thanks again guys! Daniel |

You can only use Futaba PCM receivers with your radio in PCM mode.

I use the 148DP with my 8U super and I'm pretty sure it would work well with the 7C though I haven't tried one with my 7C. The Mombo was a single channel rudder only plane I used to fly back in the 50's. Ancient history.
Take care and good luck with your Extra. I just picked up the 74" Yak54 from EF. I just couldn't make up my mind between the 50cc Yak or their 50cc Extra. So now I will see what I think about the Yak. If I like the Yak then I will probably go with their 50cc Yak but I sure do like that Extra as well. Tom |

Thanks a lot guys! Blackbeer, please don't go back to that. :-) I just found a R149DP in the swap shop. I will probably get it. For a 50cc, the EF Yak 54 and Extra 300 are great, They will both do 3D and IMAC EXTREMELY well . The Yak is slightly better in 3D, and the Extra is slightly better in IMAC. The differences are verry slight! You can't go wrong either way. Let us know what you get. I still have a while to save before I can get the Extra 300. ...
Thanks again guys! Daniel |
