Default Sim Vs the real thing.

I was playing about with my sons sim (Reflex) the other day and was surprised at how well the Pitts replicates my Pitts in the way it handles. It is pretty close with the Raptors as well.
After having a play about with some of the other aircraft, I was wondering how well the other models are doing compared to the real models. I was very impressed with the Katana...... so much so that if it handles anything like the Sim, I'm getting one.
Anyone else have anything to share regards the sim Vs the real models?.

Sometimes you jag a plane that flies like the real thing, but definately is not the norm, I usually pick a plane on AFPD and then keep modifying it until I reach some sort of closeness to my IMAC model.

I would definately not buy a model based on how it flies on the sim, there could be some major dissapointment in that process.

I find the sims very floaty compared to real models, they are great training tools and get the thumbs going in the right directions but I wouldn't buy a real model because the sim equivalent flies well.

The main thing I find different to real life flying is that the build time is quicker on the SIM.

Bwahahaha. Yeah, I'm also loving the build time.
I guess I will have to find someone with a Katana and con them into a flight. I did find that the Pitts and Tiger moth flew very realistic on the sim, and that the models do fly very different to each other. I was hoping someone out there with Reflex has flown a Katana and then can give me a comparison on the real thing.
I certainly would buy one based entirely on how the sim flys, but given the closeness of the Pitts, it certainly perked interest in the way the Katana flys.

I do all my Freestyle and IMAC practice on the AFPD - at least you get use the sequence and how it suppose to look...but I do like to set my real plane to respond as much as I could to AFPD

I tried to do that, but the damn airplane gets to small to quick and once the horizon leaves the screen, you have no idea how high you are. I have to do a snap into an inverted spin and only get two turns and suddenly theres the ground. Smack. reset button.

I dont get time to exit the maneuver. I was thinking I was much higher than I was due to no visual cue once the horizon leaves the screen. I thought I could get another two or three turns in to flatten it up and then exit with an inverted harrier. bloody ground keeps smacking me before I can get flat enough. Bloody sim. I need to fly a real scale to be able to see any higher than about fifty feet. Just have to learn to slap them sticks faster now.

In reflex you can click on the View menu along the top and select "Keep Ground in View" which might help.

Yep I am with you Wiz, I dont believe Reflex has that feature available unfortunately. What you can do though is go into the simulation menu, and into simultation parameters there is a check box in there to turn on/off data display. The data display gives you heading in degs and altitude amongst other things.

cheers,

Jeff
