The TBM looks interesting but not at $2495. At least not for me.
$400 for the RC guys looks a lot more interesting.

I have been thinking about the rcguys one for a long time, but I already have a nosen citabria in the bones and one needing a repair so a 150 sized one would fill the bill for me. I think the TBM one would be a bit anemic for me on a 150. Wife saw my list of airplanes I had in my hanger and is a bit cranky, especially with the zdz 160 sitting on my dresser.. If I am going to get in the doghouse- I want it to have spectacular power to weight and at 2400 I sure as heck am not going to strip one and put it on a diet...

Hi,
Sorry , have been working weid hours . have not had time to get on my computer.
On my Decathlon I will hanging a 'DA-50R gas engine , JR radio + (1) DS 8711 for Rudder w/ pull-pull crossed cables, upgraded hardware ( Dubro, Hanger-9, Rocket City ) , (2) DS 8411 or 8611's for the Ailerons/ (1 per side). For the Elevators (1) DS 7811 with Central Hobbies Carbon pushrods .

I emaied RCguys to ask if they had heard or has someone had any problems?, I told them
about the da50 and was there anything special I needed to know.
Mr. Dan Speers / RC guys, answered back with this;
The DA 50 Would not too heavy but it is more powerful (5 hp). You will have to be careful as the airframe is designed for up to 40cc engine and 4hp.
Some modelers have done mods like glassing over the engine box and
inseting wood plugs in the ends of the struts.

Model Airplane News /SEPT. 2007 mag did a " Flight Test " artical .

THanks to all who posted,
later Mark K.

I did the hardwood plugs in the ends of the struts on mine. It prevents the struts from crushing when you screw them down. Plus it adds added strength to prevent high G's from ripping the bolt out of the strut.

Mr. H, you are a true innovator in our hobby. Credit is given for having the cahones for starting this 'super giant' thing!
The photo is the prototype, the production planes will be available in a classic red and white scheme also.

That is cruel to come on and say something like that and not give any details or pictures. Kinda like tying a guy to a chair and putting a case of beer just out of reach.

Yeah, I got my hands on it too. Flies great. The plane was very smooth. likes coordinated turns. the DA 170 has plenty of power for scale and even non-scale aerobatics. rolls were crisp take offs were a cinch. one wheel touch and gos and even 3-point landings were e-z! The sheer size of the plane added alot of wow factor. I had guys driving up to the field that thought there was full scale in the air!! Great day today tony!

Yup I flew out there once with Gene testing some props for 50cc planes. Reminds me of the field in West Palm Beach near the VA.

Had a great bunch of flyers out at the Sarasota field.
