Great idea! I'm using vectorworks almost exclusively at the moment (.vwx file type) but i've also dabled in solidworks and learnt the basics of CAD with pro-desktop. I've attached some pictures of my first project this year which involved a 3D modelling and orthographic presentation (among other things) of a mechanical device, I chose a fuel pump

Only complaint about vectorworks is it's rendering capability, it's very processor intensive (more than other programs with higher quality rendering, Rhino CAD with Flamingo rendering engine for example) and the final rendering quality isn't as good as it could be.

Just noticed this thread, this is great ! I draw in 2D OK but 3D not so good yet, I can do some 3D in BobCad and I started trying to learn Solid works on my own but have not had time to spend learning it, 2D I draw in AutoCad, I have a 3 axis CNC router that I built and I'm a Tool & Die maker by trade and have a 3 axis CNC bed mill here at work. Looking forward to sharing some files !

Great thread! I've been a gunmaker for the last ten years. Work with MC9, X allot and I have a four axis CNC tool room mill at home along with a B/S hydraulic surface grinder. Still looking for a turning center. . .

Cheers!

Here is my latest project. It's a matchless juka with major modifications. I am still waiting on the weight comparison because I gave the first one to my buddy. We are working on a new milling pattern that will look better and be lighter, I should be cutting that one by this weekend. this current program was over 7000 lines of code from start to finish with several tool changes.Well worth it IMO!

Great looking foamy looks light ! I use the same control program on my home made router works great ! Scaling is easy on it just put in the scaling number right next to the axis on the DRO, it will also take the G50 and G51 codes so you can do scaling inside the program so if you wanted to make your foamy half that size all you have to do is put .5 in for scaling on all your axis and run the program you already have, I really like that program, I had Desk NC before and changed to this one and it is much better !!!!

Wow that sounds really convenient. Wish I knew Mastercam better to know if it had that function. Maybe someone could shed some light for me??

flynz4me, The program McFueler is referring to is called Mach 3. It is a control program that takes g-code and translates it into step and direction pulses to essentally "drive" the machine. if you have a commercial cnc then you have a built in control (this is where all the buttons softkeys, mpg ect. are) and you should consult your manual for its capabilities. Yes you can scale in mastercam, I have not had a need for it yet so i cant give you more in depth information than that. Check out www.cnczone.com they may have a better answer for you.

Yes I was talking about when you are cutting a part you can scale with Mach 3 so you don't have to redraw your model or redo the tool path the controler will run the tool path you already have and scale it for you. if you was to scale say the Z axis with a neg. 1 it would cut a female insted of a male part, now i'm talking about 3D cutting.
