No left-turning mod for a scale Sukhoi engine?

Any building today, Chris? Looks like I should be home early tomorrow so I'm hoping to finish the build then. Weather forecast actually looks good for a maiden this week.

![]() However I am proud of my little Sukhoi as she stood on her own legs for the first time today... Did I say little? It dwarfs my Cap...I also slotted all the - what do you call them?...slots I picked up a trick from a master builder buddy of mine, use a tiny soldering iron tip to cut away the covering.

Looking good Chris. And just think, it only took one day to put the gear on. Maybe you should slow down. Pace yourself. You don't want to finish this thing too soon.
I took a good look at the Sukoi today. I must say, I'm quite impressed. ALL the hardware is top knotch stuff that I usually buy to replace the cheap Chinese crap that comes with some ARFs. The plane is light for it's size and looks really well built. I can't wait to see this one go. I hope it flies as well as it looks. Last edited by Unbalanced; 01-10-2009 at 10:54 PM. |

Looking good, Chris! If you wake up early enough tomorrow you can at least have your cowl mounted before me.
It is definitely nice to have a good set of usable hardware in this kit. I was listing off to a buddy the additional parts you need to complete the kit and it's not much. Beyond the radio equipment and engine/muffler, you will need to buy fuel tubing (4 feet minimum), fuel dot/filler, throttle and choke linkages, velcro straps and/or zip ties, and that's about all I can think of right now. Also, if your engine mounting system requires blind nuts, you will need to pick those up as well. If you choose to run a cannister muffler or pipe, you will need to buy or make mounts sized for your equipment. Besides engine, prop, and radio gear that's about the entire shopping list you'll need to assemble this ARF.

Got some more work done on the Sukhoi. I installed all of the control horns, using thread lock along the way. While I was at it I sealed all the hinges with strips of clear ultracote. I then spent some time stripping the electronics out of the donor airplane. I carved out a little of the rudder servo slot to accomodate the JR "slightly larger than standard" sized 8611a. It was then that I decided to cap off the roof of the cannister tunnel with some 1/16th light ply.
Now I'm trying to decide where to put the three switches, and once I've figured that all out I'll start installing the rest of the electronics... |
