I just got in two 617's this week from Tower Hobbies. Both with gold dot.

It seems that if you get a receiver alone it will come with a gold or white dot. If you get it with a radio or in the set with a transmitter module it will not have a dot.

At least that is what I got in the past 2 weeks. I bought two R617FS receivers alone, both had gold dots. I bought a R6004FF and it too had a gold dot (wonder why, it is brand new why would it need "updating"?). A single R608FS has a white dot.

But the R617FS that came with a 6EX radio and the R6014FS that came with the module for my 14MZ both did not have any dots.

I'm fine either way. I'm a weather wussy, if it is anywhere near hot enough that something I am flying can exceed 150 degrees I am inside chillin' with a barley pop!!

Some dealers might have a lot of old inventory sitting around, others may not.
So, an interesting question is who did you buy it from?

6014 was in my box, purchased it around September. I only support local hobby shops; he would have ordered direct through Greatplanes!

If you buy a 617, you can easily tell whether it's an old or a new one by measuring the idle current of the RX while it shows a solid green LED - 20mA is the new revision, 80mA is the old revision. You can NOT tell with the 608 though.

By the way, I haven't forgotten about the 6014, I just didn't get my dotted RX yet. I hope it gets here this week.

I just received a new 12FG from Tower, and it came with an un-dotted 6014. It also had version 1.3 firmware on the transmitter so chances are that the box has been sitting around in Tower's inventory for quite a while, since version 1.6 of the firmware became available in July.
