Hi Everyone... I have a simple question, I think....
What I'm needing to know is since the Spektrum website says electronic reversing y's are a no-no......... if anyone tried them in the air regardless. I have 2 DX5e and AR500 systems that has worked flawlessly pulling 4 standard futaba servos on ailerons, and 2 standard servos on elevator (control rods on same side of horn, no reversing), 2 standards on rudder, all using standard y-harnesses. and 1 standard servo on throttle.... I do run 2 redunant battery packs at 4.8v each....no "brown-outs" yet.... light is still solid, and no glitches at all....... I have ground tested in my shop the same system with the EMS "glitch free" reverser plugged in (this is a different airframe with dual elevator servos, with one reversed) and the bench test seemed fine. Do the results change in the air? What is the deal with electronic reversing servo y-harnesses such as the EMS glitch free reversing y's and spektrum, besides it just being another electronic point to go bad in the future, as we allready know. This doesn't worry me as I'm using it on the 72mhz system now..... lol.......Spektrum really didn't elaborate on the supposed issues that these cause..... they just say don't use them...... Does it backfeed and confuse the RX, or just create glitches... anyone know? Figured I'd ask before I do the "at field airtest"........ Thanks in advance Ken |

it says the reversing Y's are a no no? I know amplified extensions were a no no. I have a reversing Y in my 37% ultimate thats working great on my 2.4 spektrum, and 3 y's on the ailerons, oh, and no power box!

Thank you, JohnVH!
Finally some input -- I was starting to think that I had a bogus question posted.... Attached pic is a portion of the best installation practice page from http://www.spektrumrc.com/Community/...Practices.aspx Don't use electronic reversing Y'sThey can cause issues. Run the servo directly to the receiver, or use a reversed servo as a last resort. I've had a couple people up here at my club tell me that they tried plugging in an electronic reversing Y, and it would'nt function at all.... and all I could go on, is my own testing.... unfortunately it's been pretty windy, way cold, and snowy here the last week, so I haven't been able to get my airtest in yet........ I know the regular y's work great.... glad to hear that you are doing the same... May I ask what # receiver you are using in your 37% Ulitimate? |

I use the jr921 / ar9000
If you can get away with not using one its probably better since they suggest not using one aparently, as usual, everyones mileage varies! Best of luck! Before any flight, test test test!!

oh yeah, test, test, test.....
![]() All the pre-flight tests and ground handling have passed with good colors ... I just hope the air test passes with flying colors... lol I'm really not wanting to change my tail configuration around, since I allready own a couple electronic reversers, and I have a few of these AR500 receivers..... and the plane is..... well, kind of expendable, but I really don't want to part with it just quite yet..... so if things go bad.... it's not that big of a loss.... and yes, mileage differs....... I personally have done many things that people have said that I couldn't do.... Tinker, Tinker, Tinker.... that's me......... I'll post my findings whether good or bad, after my test session..... Anybody else out there with some more input? |

Update:
I've been using my dx5e and recently within the last 6 months, my dx7 transmitter with the setup I mentioned in my first post..... The AR500 reciever with the EMS gitter free servo reversing "y" on the elevators is working great with absolutely no troubles and/or a jitter at all.... worked out to be pretty solid... I've been asked why I used this setup--- mainly just because I had a couple reversers here, and I had a few AR500 recievers ..... and at the time, I only had a DX5e transmitter at first...... but then, anyone that knows me, knows I like to tinker around and experiment....... However, I did test out the AR7000 reciever with the reversing "y" and it doesn't function or operate at all, period..... (this was just a test to see if it would work, but with this reciever, you just really would want to use the dual elevator mixing in the DX7 transmitter, naturally...) |
