Well, not sure if many have heard of the CFI '09 event being held in Santo Domingo, D.R. on January 15-18.

The website for the event is www.cfi2009.com

I just packed up my toy for some demos and will be flying a few different jets as well. I'll post pics from the event when I return on the 20th.

Ali Machinchy from England has sent over his C-17 - powered by (2) AMT NL Olympus HP turbines and I believe the model weighs around 250lbs and has a functioning cargo drop (R/C Jeep).

Wow I never heard of a fly in where you ship your stuff there and literally fly in. I'd probably just stay, winter sucks.

Best part is they pay for the shipping from Miami. So all you need to do is get it to Miami and then they ship it there and back. 1,100' long runway with huge covered area, on site food/drinks/beer in the middle of the Dominican countryside! I've been there before, and this is the 1st event they are hosting, I think it will become fairly popular.

Yeah I've been to DR before. Beautiful. Nice weather. Like I said, I'd never want to come back.

I hear too the Iguanas run as wild as squirrels do over here - only the Iguanas ate all the squirrels there.

I got a couple of friends here in Puerto Rico (Island next to DR) that are also attending with their airplanes and Jets. And you guys are correct, great weather all year around, for the exception of the occasional down pour. But that doesn't stop us from flying, as this picture show's. I call it IFR Hucking.

I hope the guy’s have a great time in DR, enjoy the drinks I heard they are very cheap. And don’t forget the pics. Enjoy the warm weather!!! and the great flying.

enjoy the DR guys. i was in santo domingo for 2 weeks april of last year and had a blast! I was hoping to make it to this event, but the schedule of work didn't work out.
