I balled up my airplane on New Years Day immediately after flying Dave's Edge, and I was hoping to finally bring it (my plane) up to the NW. Talk about a letdown. Flew a great plane, then destroyed my last big one, back to back. Now I am in the market again...

Could you PM me the location/time info please? I look forward to meeting you.

**edit** by the way I love living in the West again, everybody is so friendly.

Sevans16, I would like to put in my vote for the Dietrich Slick 540. Just get one to be different!

Technically I think the composite (wood foam ply) construction techniques Dietrich uses are very interesting and innovative for gas planes. I used similar techniques scratch-building electric planes 10 years ago (anybody remember NiCads and cobalt motors? yeah, good times!).

Dietrichs are a long ways out now. I missed the boat on those!! I was hoping to get something at the AMA Show. So hopefully I'll pick something in the next couple of days so I can get on with life!! Man the stress is killing me here!!

That is the $62 question. They are closely based on the TT/TOC designs, which fly at least good enough for 3D. I don't see too many TOC planes flying in IMAC comps, though.

It's great that you are sponsored by them, but your opinion carries less weight than Joe Blow's opinion as a result, because Joe had to pay full boat for his. Heck, he may have even had to pay several hundred dollars more, since they have now dropped the price by like 40% since it was first released. And prices usually drop like that because the product isn't moving, and it usually fails to move as a result of the price being higher than the worth of the product or because the product is just plain junk...
Not trying to start anything by any means, but have you seen the new 120 with the Kimball scheme? Just curious, as I don't get any special airplane from Quique that is way better quality than everyone elses or anything. Mine gets pulled out of his stock like everyone else's, and mine was of great quality. Its not built by a pro or covered by one by any means, but its darn good quality for an ARF.

Its not "quick-build" format no, but I like knowing my hinges are in good, and doing certain things to know they are done well. I hate hinging, but I'd rather do it than some person from China.

Yes it takes 22 screws or whatever for the cowl, but how else might you hold it on? Plus, I'd much rather have my cowling stay on, then vibrate off in flight. You might think the nose is too long, but I personally like it (and its not because I'm sponsored either).

You wouldn't tell its heavy by the way it flies. Just because its 40 pounds doesn't mean anything. The 120 is quite a big airplane, and flies very well. Too light and the wind starts messing things up. Just like Wayne Geffon's Godfrey. He had one last year at 38 lbs. By the end of last year he was adding ballast to the plane making it 40lbs on windy days. He's having Walt build him another that will be right at 40lbs with the 170.

Just an FYI, I flew Quique's airplanes before I was sponsored too, so I did have to pay full price for them at one point in time.

Again, not trying to argue or attack you or anything, just stating my opinion/experience and my side of the story.

Seth

I am the proud owner of an ARC Quique 120 Yak. Every glue joint on the plane is perfect. Every piece of wood is perfectly cut and sanded. The only problem I had with it was the canopy. It had a warp in it when it got glued to the wood frame. I was sent a new one within the week. I own 6 QQ Yaks now and have never had a problem with any on covering or finish.
I am not sponsored or have any relation by him. I just prefer to pay more for a quality product and have never looked back. His Yaks are the best by design. My opinion of course

It sounds like QQ must be selling alot of planes! Every time the QQ YAKS start selling like Hotcakes, you start hearing the "Aeroworks boys" start their slamming again. It really makes for a bad image for Aeroworks.

I say if you want a first class plane, go ahead and spend your $4000.00 to $5000.00 for an ARF. If you want a great plane and a great ARF that flies better than alot of the kits out there, go spend your $1300.00 and buy a QQ YAK 54 and get the best quality and flight characteristics for the money.

These guys want a Bentley for the price of a YUGO. Good luck with whatever you get!
