Nice thread man. I am also from SA and received my Extra 300 on the weekend. Just need to mount the engine/cowl then i am all done.

Just one question, where you mounted your throttle servo, if you cover that area up with the supplied panel then you wont be able to remove the throttle servo. What are your thoughts ?

With great difficulty In my honest opinion, this is not the best constructed airplane. you shouldn't have to remove the throttle servo, its a permanent thing.....

here is what I did:
Pic 1 - I cut a peice of balsa and filled in the side so the mount will have a good glue grip. (I used waterproof/sandable wood glue - super strong)

Pic 2 and 3: I drilled 2 small holes in the mount and used 2 bolts and lock nuts for added strength.

Pic 4: Mounted the Fromeco sahara Regulator for the receiver.

Sorry for the fuzzy pics - My camera is kind of old.

Hoping to maiden on sunday....

she flies!
what a beaut! very light at 15.5 pounds. she went where she was pointed and the roll rate on high rates is rediculous.
I couldn't get hold of a video camera but there was someone at the field with one but he was struggling with the focus. he got part of the take off and the landing.
when on the landing pattern once you bring the throttle to idle on finals, its almost like hitting the brakes - it slows down very quickly

My thoughts: FANTASTIC

now I have to wait another week for next sunday...

Wow ! Now I can put a face to the natorious M64 ! Nice plane , just got my second YAK-54 flying the other weekend .
I was thinking of your motor box set-up ... If you were to go around the perimiter with like 3/8" balsa epoxyed in place .
You could have a screw down top plate to your motor box . Your right should'nt have to change it , but it is nice to know you've got accsess when you want it .

I glued the top plate onto the motor box but there is quite a large acces hole in the middle of it.
I don't have a pic of it as everything is loctited in place.

this plane is an absolute beast!!!
