Here are some pictures from this past weekend. It was Yak Central.

Pilot RC 37.5% Yak 54
Carden 37% Yak 54
Comp-Arf 3.0 Yak 55

After about 15 flights, I am really getting to love it, I will try and get some in flight pictures.

Nice photos Wreck. I got to maiden mine last weekend. I ended up putting a plate to spread the engine footprint. Took the firewall to the edge of the side bearers and wrapped the front corners with biased carbon cloth and 1.5" aluminium angles on the outside to sandwich the carbon and finished it off with through bolts as supplied - did need to use slightly longer 3mm bolts though. Very little vibration if any with the ZDZ 160 Super on standard mufflers. But what a machine - my second manouvre was a knife edge loop and it was effortless. I was a little skeptical about the ailerons but they are very effective - put in a few four point torque rolls. Only got one flight in because I had been working till two in the morning for the last few days to finish it off. Now putting on smoke for next weekend.

The only issue I faced was the steering collet guide on the rudder attachment came off from the tail wheel assembly and to my surprise it was free wheeling on landing - luckily the low rates on the rudder were effective enough to avoid going into the protective fence around the fliers box or else I would have had a banged up leading edge - now that would have wiped the perpetual smile off my face.

There have been issues with that thing falling off the rudder. I think the best thing is glue threaded rod into the rudder and screw a ball-link to it for the wire to run through. I changed my whole assembly out to a J&J Tailwheel and just connected some cables to the rudder horn.

Good idea Wreck. I'll try this first. If it doesn't work, I'll just do what you have done.

The tail wheel guidance modification held up this weekend but the tail wheel wire keeps bending no matter how smooth a landing I do - I feel it is a bit too soft for this size. Nonetheless, some good fun was had as the pictures show.

How's the durability of the carbon main landing gear? I'm close to a maiden with mine, but the gear
seems a little thin for a plane this size.

So far mine is good. However, I have had no rough landings. They do seem soft, wagging the ailerons on the ground will flex the landing gear.

Don't be afraid of the carbon main gear,I believe there is strip of aluminum in there somewhere. I used SD ( I believe it comes from the same supplier) carbon gear on my Dalton and had to cut a section out of the center,, found a thin piece of aluminum between layers. Also harrier landed my 37.5 Yak with no ill effects.
Tailwheel wire is too soft, J&J has a solution, so does White Rose Engineering

I'll second errr... third the replies on the landing gear. Seems like it could use some beefing up but is holding up fine. TonyG, do you fly off grass ? You probably have pretty big ones, harrier landing with that gear, but if you fly of tarmac (like I do) please pass it around as it would seem you've got more than your share !
