Default J'Tec 35% Extra Build

Just received my Jtech Extra Yesterday. I removed the parts from the box and threw them together quickly to get a feel for the build and size of the plane. The plane is built very well along with a very nice covering job. I agree with others who have said it is built more like a carden than the typical arf with hopefully less weight. This will be my first 35% plane and presents quite a bit larger than the 33% planes I have been flying. I plan to start a build thread on this in March. I first have to get done with a 30% EF Yak. At first I wasn't too thrilled about the covering scheme, but it has grown on me, and I actually like it now, especially in person. I fly mostly 3D, and if this plane flys as good as it looks, it will be a winner. I plan to use a DL 100, 8611as for all control surfaces except for an 8711 on the rudder. Will use the JR matchboxes for the ailerons with two servos per wing. I will probably go with the Lithium Ion Nanophosphate a123 batteries, since the reviews seem very positive. I am a di-hard NiCad fan, but the a123 seems promising in terms of weight, durability, safety, flight time and ease of charging. I will be deciding on what hardware to use over the next couple weeks.

Columbo....i'm sure you are going to love this bird! Jtec makes some really nice aircraft. I had thought about getting this exact same airplane and putting as BME 116 up front. I have my eye on one other 35% extra that hasn't been released yet.....but i would like to own both to be honest. I'm sure one day i'll get one of these too , it's this little thing called "lack o' money" right now. Looking forward to your build thread man!

As soon as I finish my EF 88 yak, I will start this build thread, most likely by late February. Yes it looks to be an extremely well built plane! Looks awesome in person. Which 35% extra are you referring to that hasn't been released yet? Are you talking about the one from Dietrich or does J-Tech have another one in the works? I notice you are from St Helens OR. We visited mount St Helens about 5 years ago. My wife is from Portland (we live in Oklahoma now) and we vist that area every few years. It is a beautiful location.

Looks great, if you want to keep it light then I suggest matching the servos b4 installation, then with proper linkage geometry, you wont need matchboxes...less weight. also use a soda bottle for the gas tank, much lighter than a stocker. Batteries are another story, but thats up to you. I choose Flight power 2500mah Li-Po's because of output and flight times, we get 8-10 flights a day w/o having to recharge at the field, but thats JMO. Good luck and keep us posted on your progress.

Thanks Mike,

That is a nice looking Yak in your avatar. Which Yak model and what size is that?

Hey Columbo.....

yeah it's a nice area for sure....but dang man , we have just been getting hammered this year with the worst weather ever. It started snowing "again" today.....coming down like a bat out a hell! Wish this crap would stop! I can see Mt St helens on a clear day very well , even though it's in Washington , we are strait across the river in Oregon , just right off the Columbia River. I love it here during the spring , summer and fall......but this is by far the worst winter i have ever seen. Supposed to be the worst one in 40 friggin years! And as far as Portland goes......i'm in there almost every day with my construction work....when the weather permits it anyways.

Hey.....one question on your J-Tec. Does it have a canister tunnel area built in....something that will accept dual cans?

The other extra i was referring to up above was the 3DHS extra. It's a 330 SC , which looks to be more of a lower wing than this J-tec.....not sure which would be more of a better 3D/Freestyle type bird. I don't fly any IMAC , so precision isn't the most important thing to me. 3DHS makes some awesome aircraft as well......it's going to be hard to choose. If i could afford it , i'd own both.

Would there be anyway over the next few days to get some pics of the fron motor box area with the cowl off? Possibly the Canopy as well.....i'd like to see what the layout looks like.

And Columbo.....are you the same Columbo that started the AM 33% yak thread over on RCU a few years back?

Jeff,

I will get some photos of the front motor box and the canopy area within the next couple days. Yes, I am the same columbo that started the AM 33% Yak thread a while back. I flew that plane for 2 years (logest I have ever kept any plane) before selling it. I will say it is the best flying plane I have owned so far. It tracked very well and did good in 3D. We will see if the Jtech is better. I certainly like the looks of the extras. TT has taken over the company now. Also the pilot-rc planes are a more updated version of these planes with pre-assembly, good hardare and carbon fiber parts. Speaking of adverse weather, we have a sleet storm going on outside as I speak. However, we will be back to near 60 by the weekend. With this type of weather, the only thing we can do is build. I like the 3DHS planes. I was considering their slick, but since it was backordered I changed my mind. Maybe next year.

Thanks Columbo.....those shot would be much appreciated! I'm just curious as to how much room there is to do a dual canister setup on this bird. I'm thinking a BME 116 would be a great match for this bird , and it would help it stay light as well.

The 33% yak build thread.....i spent a ton of time reading through that. I ended up selling the airframe to a buddy of mine and never did get another one. I have flown his a couple times though , and it's a great aircraft as well. he set it up with a 3W-80CS , and it really is a good match for that yak. I just visited that thread so many times , i got used to seeing the thread starter was "Columbo".....that's why i was thinking it was probably you.

All our planes are canister ready, always have been. Its a must these days if we intend on keeping flying fields. We built the 2.7 meter for clover creek and installed the BME 115 or 116 with tuned pipes. On the tuned pipes you would need to open the bottom some but they can be installed also.

Check out my build thread on it....its a beast, and thanks to AL, I have a great set of in cowl mufflers that are flawless.
Im in the process of adding a 1/2" silver stripe under the black, it looks totally different with that 4th color.

Here are the pre-construction pictures of the fuselage as requested. Customjrod, did you get another extra? What are you going to do with two?

By the way...

What really sealed the deal with me on this plane was watching a video posted by a guy who goes by the name of Buttface. Although a lot of what he was doing had to do with pilot skills, I could tell that the plane was a 3D machine (super stable in 3D). He was flying a 40% Jtech extra 330L (Jtech's older model). These new ones are supposedly lighter and with a mid wing. If this 35% is even 75% as stable as that one I would be very happy. Anyone want to comment on the stability of this plane in 3D (upright and inverted harrier, etc.).

Greg

KS 86's or MTW 75's (longer version) should fit right into the tunnel. I think its a 70mm drop flex header that you want us use with it also.

I think you will like the 2.7m 300, it is a really fun airplane.
