Jason ,not to be cheap, but why should the flyers have to pay? We are putting our planes on the line for the benifit of their venue. None of the money goes to a charity, just to support FOF. I won't pay to be an act for FOF. When it was free to flyers, we went just for the social aspect of the event. This year we will be absent. I already threw the invite away.

Amen brother.... I went to the Chattanooga 3D Jam two months ago. Of course I had to pay to drive the 9 hours and get a hotel room.......BUT......

There was not a landing fee, pilots flew free....
They set up a lunch stand, pilots ate free on Saturday...
They had a killer dinner on Sat night, just for the pilots.....FREE
They had a local band paid for and lined up....again pilots FREE

Somehow they managed to raise near a thousand dollars because they got lots of vendors to donate to their event and sold raffle tickets to pilots and public.

They charged $5 a car for the local town folks to come watch, buy a soda, sandwich.... and in that $5 car fee was the included return to seethe band that evening....

Not to whine, but I am fairly over spending my money to drive hours, gas, hotel and then need to pay landing fee, etc etc....Then put my $500 to $5000 machine up for all to go.....awwwwwwwwhhhhh when it splats.

I sound off hoping that other venues will take a hint from the Chattanooga guys. BTW, they got the public out with a small ad in the local paper and free mention on a local radio show if I am not mistaken. Again, the club made a profit and even paid for the band on the rained out evening......

I think Roar and Soar is also the same weekend as the flyin at Ocala's OTOW field. If it is, i think I'll burn up the gas to visit with Chubby and the entry is free.

I totally agree Richard. In the two times we went to R&S, I had planes damaged due to conditions of the runway. The repairs came out of my pocket. The excuse you get to view the exhibits doesn't fly, because the way the flying is set up you don't have time to go far. The last event I even let Kermit fly one of my planes.
I wonder if they make the hydroplanes on the lake pay a launch fee at the ramp, or the paratroopers a jump fee, and a lot fee for the classic cars so eveyone can look at them. Instead of roar and soar, it's roast and soak!

I guess the only good thing, is that it might limit the number of pilots, allowing the ones that do pay to fly more often.

Also, lets not mention full scale every hour, where we have to stand down, while they fly. Hmmmm, I wonder if that will be the same this year.

However, it would have been nice for Fantasy of Flight to continue with same tradition in the past of the event supporters getting a break on admissions. It is sad that a good event, can make the wrong decisions, with the best of intentions.
Jason, if you still plan on going I will go as your pit bitch I get in free I am a member MID Florida RC.
