Default DA 85 Pitts Muffler Question

I am looking ahead to my Aeroworks 85cc Yak 54 build. I am installing a DA 85 inverted, and want to have smoke. Any suggestions as to which Pitts muffler is made for this application?

Thank you!

not many choices that I know of. I saw the slimline pitts at the AMA Expo and it looks great. They have a support bracket on the oppisite side of the engine from the port/mount. There has been some problems with others cracking!! There is a lot of weight to hang out there with no external support.

Lanier Edge 540 94", DA85.
I went with TBM's Silent Beauty. it is a little loud but they probably all are for this design.
It can be tapped for smoke very easy.
Using a Vess 26B and it rips it at 6800 to 7200 in flight using Eagle tree seagull setup, 5+ gallons now.
It cracked early on, I welded it back up and it has been good after that. The weld joint was weak IMO.
They now recommend a bracket, I am still still not using it, 4+ gallons later. Maybe flirting with disaster.
Use some locktight in the pipe bolts, mine lossened up after some number of flights, a few times.
I think part of my problem, was running rich during the early break in, which caused a shaker to be born.
It is much better after setting needles closer to the running settings.
I have not heard any comments of any one vendor never having a problem.
Slimline has a newer revision that is supposed to not break.Warranty people take first deliveries.
Waiting on the verdict.

Hey,

Any one still buying or using the Slimline inverted Pitts Style Smoke muffler on the DA-85?
I had a non-smoke version that failed. It had holes in the welds that leaked and when the weld finally started to brake I sent mine back to Slimline for replacement but never was sent a replacement. After doing the phone promises from Slimline for little more then 4 months I gave up bought a Troy Built Pitts Muffler instead.

The TBM muffler has worked great but the plane has had a little mishap and I need to replace the muffler with a smoke and wondered if I should try and receive a new Slimline or go back to Troy?

From experience on my DA-85 and on a friends. The Silent Beauty will not last long before cracking and breaking. The old DA-85 version Slimline will also break. The new syle of Slimline DA-85 muffler hasn't broken so far after about 100 flights.

i have a silent beauty for my DA85, when it cracked i took it to a welder that makes boat parts, tee tops and such. he just shook his head rewelded the complete muffler and said that will be 20 bucks he said it will never come apart again, even gives a warrenty. didnt take him 10 minutes to reweld the complete p.o.s. too bad this wasnt done first time by the manufacture but i guess as long as we keep buying the crap they will continue to sell it

Thanks tomyrc and rcair,

I like that two part muffler you show tomyrcmodels. Not much to brake there unless you plow your plain into the ground.

Well Peggy from Slimline called back and is sending out a replacement with the added smoke option.
Looking forward to installing it.

Here are a few pictures of the Slimline Pitts Style smoke muffler for the DA-85
Plain is almost ready to be flown again so if you want I'll post some more info on how it works out.
The airframe is an ArrowWorks Yak 54 75cc with the DA-85. It had an un-fortune crash some months back as I ran out of gas in a low hover.

Note, the smoke is not hooked up as of yet. I want to fly it first then add the smoke (extra weight).
