Fantastic stuff!!
Looks like you guys are leading the way into the future of GS electric flight. ![]() After reading all the threads here it seems battery technology needs to improve a lot more before the masses take to GS electric flight. Flight time and weight seems to be main problem for a few guys.

Its ok, electric Giant Scale isn't for everyone. I do like electrics on smaller than 50cc planes.

I am toying with the idea of electrifying my 50cc Sukhoi. A Hacker A60 with Jeti Spin 99 controller total $550, plus the cost of batteries. Removing my gas engine may require that I add weight up front for the plane to balance though.

I have already converted my IMAC 2.6m plane partially to electric. Both the Receiver & Ignition are powered this way. The onboard Honda Genny was a bit heavy. LOL. Yes, I did try a long extension lead.
Sorry, but I'm from the big thumpin' V8 generation. Not this whistlin' turbo garbage. Let's all unite and keep the internal combustion engine until we finish the last drop of oil. How many CC's was that electric? Sorry, winds. Or is that whines. Ha Ha. Listen to a big electric. It's that paddle pop stick up front that makes most of the noise. Maybe we could use rubber propellers?? The day I have to go electric will be the day I give it away and go play golf..

Just to interject my opinion,, I have been flying model airplanes for about 11 years,, I currently fly a 40% Carden Extra and a 35% Yak for my IMAC and 3d needs,, I have one foamy which i fly in my yard and enjoy practicing 3d with it,, and I own a Trex600 nitro heli, and a couple of misc. glow planes,, to cut my opinion short and sweet,, I am not trying to be the butthole of this thread but to give my honest opinion, I find that electrics over the .40 glow size to be very boring,, I am only 28 years old but I enjoy this hobby more than anything in the world, I love hearing my DA's naw, and my glow motors scream,, If this hobby was mostly electrics, I would flat out quit,, I have never been a fan of electrics other than foamy's, I find them boring for the most part,, but anyway ,, everyone has there on views but these are just my opinions and thoughts,,

![]() I'm sorry but having a 50CC sized electric that puts out almost 4,000w is not what I would call boring. Have you ever flown a GS electric airplane?? Tim

I seriously doubt Jon has ever seen a properly powered large electric fly.

I have seen several 35% Yaks,, and I saw Leseburgs 40% godfrey fly,, it was alot more money than a gas plane,, as far as motors and batteries,,

Yes of course it was. The question in the poll though, asks if you would switch if the costs were comparable.

I actually have an electric Imac plane. I fly an 89 electric slick from 3dhobbyshop in Imac this year.

I reckon a speedy required to run the equivalent of a 100-150cc engine would pump out enough power to give me a buzz. I'd be scared plugging the thing in. Would definitely go down that track if it was affordable. Imagine ya mate havin a flat battery in his car, & ya pull your spare 12s pack out of ya pocket & ... Nah never mind. |
