Default Looking For CNC Work

Hey guys. It seems that we are starting to see the affects of the economy. Our biggest customer just dumped a big one on us today. They are cutting their manufacturing by no less than 40%. We, as their primary machining vendor, have a ton riding on their success. It seems that we are going to slow way down and aren't expecting to see work pick back up until somewhere around September. This is not uncommon for us as they are one of the leading archery companies that has been bought out by one of the big named firearms companies and their need for high production is seasonal. The only problem is that this year, they've hit their slow down point way too early and with the production cut it's going to take a huge bite out of our livelyhood. Needless to say, we are going to have a little time on our hands to take on new customers. We are a production machining facility. We currently have 24 Haas vertical mills ranging from VF-2s to VF-4s and have several equiped for 4th Axis needs. If you are currently seeking someone to do some production work of any size, we're all ears to what you want. I'll be happy to give any info to you about our company if you're interested. I've been in this industry for over 16 years and this is the best company I've ever worked for. I've spent many long nights, worked a ton of hours for free, and lost several pints of blood to see that the two gentlemen that write my paycheck succeed and I wont sit back and watch them struggle without taking a paycheck themselves just to make sure all of the employees get paid. I figured any work that comes in would help so I'm throwing it out there for anyone to take advantage of it. We have always bid jobs cheap just to be able to work. Feel free to PM me if you have some questions or are looking for someone for your machining needs. We take pride in our business and our work and I'm not planning on leaving that unless they chain the door shut on us. I hope I can help someone get their ideas going and save them a few bucks in the process, and at the same time help keep us from laying off a single employee.

Sorry to hear about the slow down Rob. This thing is spreading like wildfire right now. Really scary. Your attitude is great, it's what built this country, and is what will repair our economy in the long run. Jeez, you never once mentioned the word "bailout", just the desire to support your company through hard work and loyalty. Don't let the politicians hear you talking like that......

Do you currently, or have you in the past done Defense work?
Are all the employees US citizens or greencard holders?
Is the company ISO Cert'd?

thanks

It's hitting everywhere guys. I am now the bubble guy in my department @ UF. The guy below me got his layoff notice yesterday. He had right at ten years of service and I'm at fifteen. Being national champs didn't create any jobs or slow the layoffs. At least they give plenty of notice, he has till June 30 (end of fiscal) before they have your going away party.I'm working on retiring on disability before then but it takes time getting the docs all agreeing.

Anyone forecasting a "mid-2009" recovery is smokin' from the same pipe that Phelps was.....

Finishing up with my company at the end of February after 35 1/2 years, and the consultants they brought in have told them "however long you think your downside is going to be DOUBLE IT"! Looking at no earlier than a second half 2010 turnaround.

Scary time for all of us boomers who only experienced the depression through the tales of our parents and grandparents.

Keep on plugging for your company.

Man, I never thought I would fit into a thread like this! I am (was) a structural designer for a international mining equipment company. We all thought we were doing good because of the backlog of work and all of the sudden a bunch of us, myself included, got laid off yesterday. They said it was due to a bunch of orders being canceled. I am now looking for a job in SW PA for any CAD work or CNC Programming. At this point I would consider any options. Please PM me if you have any info.

We have never done any defense work, all employess are local and American born and raised. We are currently in the works to get ISO certified just so we can diversify. Right now our eggs are in one basket and I've preached my bosses head for years on how bad of a situation that is. I think, this time, he'll understand my point. I have done numerous jobs, at previous employers, for the Military. I've cut parts from aircraft to cruise missles. I've done a ton of competition gun parts. The only problem is here, we've never had to do anything but cut archery parts, and are in a scramble to find new work, but the local market is dry. We have been in business since 1998 as a one machine facility and now have 24 and various manual and automatic machines. I was the only machinist out of three employess back then. Now we have four and we all have been around a while, are fluent with Autocad, Solidworks, Mastercam, Bobcad, and dabbled in a few others. Between all of us, we've been there, cut that, and have done enough since to forget half of it. Every one of us are able to some complex programming the old fashioned way. A pencil, notepad, and a calculator. We run a crew of 25 employees 24/7. I've seen this place grow exponentially over the years, faster than any company any of us has ever worked for, so we must have been doing something right. I just pray it stays this way and will do everything I can to see that it continues to do well. After all, if they fail, I'm screwed, therefore have no shame in begging for help. I hope you other guys out there survive this rough period. If you find yourself out our way in need of work, our door's always open to a hard working person just trying to get by. My boss is a Christian, and one of the greatest friends I could have. He will bend over backwards to help any honest person in need of help. To us, he's not sir or boss, he's our bud. I wish my past employers were half the man he is, but then we might not have met. Good luck to the rest of you and thanks for the kind words and offers.

It's starting to look like 1980 all over again. We pulled out of it, but it was a long and painful road.
