It doesn't show up well in that pic, but the satellite receiver antenna is quite long.

has anyone actually had difficulty with the std ar9000/9100's in a composite arf plane? my superxtra did just fine with the 9000 and that has a bunch of carbon fibre in it..... what is different other than the length of the ant. wire????

On the installation in the pic, they have the antenna's routed through the body to the outside of the plane.

I've not had any issues with 2.4 in my pattern planes. From the wingtube forward is carbon fiber, fiberglass and some foam aft of the firewall for the lamination, and the wingtube back is kevlar, foam, and fiberglass. The canopy is rather long, and is solid carbon fiber, and my firewall is carbon.

I've not had any issues with with either Spektrum or JR 2.4 with the main receiver directly under the canopy, and satellites near the wing tube (also carbon) and in the tail. I've even checked the airplane with the nose pointed towards me, and the antenna pointed away from the airplane. With the signal going through me and all of the carbon in the airplane, I didn't notice any decrease in range. I'll also be running the YS 1.70CDI, which has an ignition module in place of the glow plug, and will plug that directly into the receiver as well. Several guys have run the 1.70CDI's like that on 2.4 and haven't had any issues either, and those airplanes had quite a bit of carbon in them as well.

My 3.0 Yak is loaded up with Carbon Fiber...and Im using a R1222 receiver. My Spektrum log meter never reads of 18 on any one of the sattelites and 0 frame losses and 0 holds.

Good Morning: Having just returned from Chile, and having the oppurtunity to fly all composite airframes while attending the Chile AirShow/Imac 2009,here's a few observations from the show:
First off: all aircraft except one were Futaba 2.4 FASST, using one RX. Second.. All Jets were Composite/Carbon Airframes as well with FASST 2.4 as well. Alot of the jets, were using ROYAL powerboxes, with rx switching capabilities, with "ZERO" observed RX switches during flights. Gliders, were also all composite/carbon, and interesting enough, all rx's were buried in the carbon airframes, with nothing short of FASST perfection!
Daily Temperatures were high 90's everyday, with cloudless skies.
Lastly, all FASST RXs were burried in aircraft with no visible external ant placements. Installs were simply and clean.
You'd be hard pressed to get, a 2.4 system with multiple remote ants in some of these gliders, as they were very restricted in space. One additonal note, i witnessed one smaller glider, two to three channels, climb almost out of eyesight, using futaba Fasst micro RX... guess you can call that one serious range test!
Good Day, and make it a great FASST weekend!
Don
