In the end, IMHO buy whatever you're comfortable with. There's a lot of voodoo in this hobby. I'm liking my 7950s and most other servos Hitec makes. I'm loving my Aurora 9 for sure.

I'm not a brand loyal person especially when it comes to servos. I do appreciate good service and that does factor into my decision making but for the most part I will buy whatever I think is best. I've had great service from both Hitec and Horizon. But you can't argue the fact that there are posts about the 7950 where people are getting them bad out of the box. How the heck does that happen? Where's the quality control, and if their bad of the box what else could be wrong with the ones that start off working? Unless I'm mistaken and somebody correct me if I'm wrong there are also a few reports of them locking hard over? The reports of people having no problems with A123 batteries doesn't mean much to me personally. I'm not going to buy a high voltage rated servo to run 6v to it, that just doesn't make any sense to me. Or just living with the jitters/glitches.... uhhhhhh... No thanks. Like I said I'm running 7955's now and just now bought 8911's. I think at this point IMO* if you want a mega torque high voltage servo that's its a safer/better buy. As far as Hitec not being able to replicate the problem.... well I've got some awfully fishy stories when I have called to ask questions about problems that I personally experienced or were documented on the internet only get get "we've never heard of that before". Uh..huh... BUT I've got that same thing from Horizon also. There is still no perfect servo, buy the one you think is best, chances are it will perform fine for you.

For 500 dollars or less, I get a mid-high end radio with THREE receivers. The programming on the A9 is considerably more advanced and flexible than the Spektrum / JR that I currently have. Besides, once I move into 100+ CC, I should be running a power expander-type of device, so that not all those current-hungry servos are Y-ed to the same channel.

Do you like the programming better than what's on the 9303?

Are any of you 7950 users using powerbox royal?
If so are you running on 7volts? If so are you seeing weird usage figures after each flight? eg. it says you are using 2300 ma when , if you charge, it only used 700ma. This has been going on for many flights now and a fellow flyer has a different setup with 7950 and powerbox and yet gets the same results. ie weird figures of ma usage.. Just want to see if this is a one or two of or more than that. The 7950s are working very well on 7 volts through the powerbox. This usage issue is the only glitch and I would say its a bad batch but the powerboxes were bought from different countries at different times. I love the products just have a minor glitch and was trying to find out if it was a "user" error. or maybe a microcode issue...Im hoping a user error as they are easily fixed. We have 30 and 70 odd flights on 2 planes and the 7950s are working without glitches....very happy so far.

Any word on if the ferrite rings make a difference? That was an interesting post and no one has done any experiments with it. The poster above is using a PowerBox, which uses ferrite rings, could this be the trick?

I am using the Powerbox Spektrum Royal and I can't run the Hitec 7950 servo at 7v because they gitter when you move the control surfaces! Cantacted Amerang UK (UK distributors for Hitec) and they put the problem down to the Powerbox system or my JR dsx9 (uk version of x9303)
![]() The servos work fine at 6v, but defeats the purpose of buying the 7950's - if i wanted to run at 6v i probably would have went for JR 8711's! Is anyone using X9303 with powerbox spektrum royal and Hitec X9303 servo's? |

Did someone ever measure the power of the 7950th? How strong is the Hitec in comparison to the Jr 8711?

If you look back at my pervious posts, it seems like i've tried nearly everything and no luck. (still get glitches)
Ferrite rings, twisted wire (helped but didn't eliminate), swithing recievers, different batteries, etc. It's been a bit frustrating since the 7950's were sold to me based on the specs that I could run JR1222 HP recievers and Batteries directly connected, eliminating the extra electronics, (regulators, power expanders). not to have to reset everthing back up i just ended up regulating the power before the reciever (6v). The wierd thing is that i didn't have the issue with the exsisting 7955's that weren't even rated at 7.4 volts but seemed to work fine unregulated. I wish someone could find a definitive answer (Hitec) and recall the servos and get them working as spec'ed. |
