Default Judging

For fun look at the pic and if it should be straight and level but it's at this angle what is the down grade. Just do a quick look like you would have if you wore judging.

Agree, looks to be about 10 degrees to me so 1 point. If it's even a fraction of a degree over, it's 1.5 points.

It looks between 15 and 20 to me... so 1.5 or maybe 2 but I would give it 1.5. It would be interesting to see the degree markers superimposed on that

Ha.....that my friends is a Zero. Why you ask?

If I see the plane at that size heading outbound as depicted in the photo, that plane is most likely over the deadline!

I was just having fun with it. That is a 1pt deduction or possibly a 1.5 Pilot would get the benefit of the doubt though.

1.5. The problem is judges usually dont have that prospective on the plane. It is more difficult to estimate from a side view and at a lower vantage piont.

The wings are 7 degrees off level if you use the bottom of the picture as level. That's all you can tell about it. There are very few attitudes where you'd see the rear of the plane and not see the bottom. Are you trying to get one of us to say that the fuse is off heading also? We need more information as to what line you are trying to fly, where in the sky you are, etc. It would be impossible to talk more about this in text form.

It's 11 degrees. My protractor never lies to me. :-) That would be a 1.5

If all judges had a usable protractor at events and all airplanes are flying perpendicular to the judges and the sun was just right and the airplane didn't have a sloping backdrop and, and and..

An outline of an airplane was given and see how many variations there are as to what the score deduction would be. It's like the police say of an eye witness. "There's nothing worse than an eye witness. Everyone see the exact same thing so differently."

That's why it's so important to attend as many of the judging schools as one can. You learn so much more each and every time. The next biggest learning tool is to sit as a scribe. After a while, even as a scribe, you'll start to be able to see how a good judge judges, and more importantly, why. Plus, if you're coming up through the ranks, you'll be able to see what and how a particular maneuver and/or line scored higher and what scored lower.

My first impression after looking at the graphic was it was close to 10 degrees and a one point deduction.

one thing to remember... one person may see 10 degrees... another may see 20 degrees....
as long as they are CONSISTENT through the entire round... it will be OK...

Wind correction should be done using pitch and yaw. Any bank angle of the wing in the roll axis should be downgraded using the standard rule of .5 point deduction per 5 degree. The attached is an excerpt from the IMAC rules.
