I know this is similar to the Dietrich thread but I am an american expat living in Singapore. Ironically it is much closer to china but yet quite difficult to get all the planes made in china. I really like the look of the EF 300 (I have the 58" version) but I will have to pay an extra $225 for it to import it. I can get an Aeroworks extra 260 for the regular price without shipping as it is the only real brand imported here.
So what say you? Does the longer tail moment on the EF make a big difference. I am more into aerobatics rather than 3D. I have a DA50 that is going to go into whatever I choose. Thanks, Jeff |

EF all the way! The longet tail moment really helps with precision, and makes 3D smoother. The AW 260 is an awesome plane too, but my vote would go to the EF Extra 300. I can't say enough about EF's planes! You won't be disappointed!

Two different planes, really. The AW is nice, but a bit smaller than the EF. The EF is light for its size but will be heavier than the AW because it's bigger.
If you want better thrust-to-weight, go with the AW. If you want better wing loading go with the EF. Both planes fly well and both are built well. The AW will build faster and easier - no hinging (except rudder), no cowl mounting, wheel pant fitting, etc. The EF's are easy to build but the hinging part sucks for sure. My Yak didn't have anything pre-mounted, but I am talking about the first Yak he came out with. Perhaps now you at least get a pre-mounted cowl, gear, wheelpants?

Both are great. Go with the one that looks cooler for you.

I cannot fairly comment on the EF as I have never flown one. I do own a AW Extra 260 with DA50 and I have been very happy with this plane. It flies very straight and predictable and at this point it is by far my favourite flyer. I can only offer that you won't be disappointed with the AW.

Thanks for the comments. They are both nice planes but I think I can't resist the EF. Besides, it is sometimes nice to have a plane that nobody else has in the entire country!!!!
Thanks again. -Jeff |

I have the Aeroworks 300lp.. It's OK.. The low wing makes it weird in 3D. I wish I would have waited for the 260.. When I put the 300 togeather. .one of the tail sections would not deflect as much as the other. I emailed AW and they wanted me to send the one back and they would send the other.. LOL. I wanted to fly so I just put it on and FLEW.. I have delt with a few dealers and most have just sent me the damaged Item. That let me down a little.. I will just have to buy one later.. .. I have flown the EF 300.. Milton (area51 Milton) He has one and they let me fly it.. WOW.. It's AWESOME. I am waiting one the Edge 540 from EF..
SO.. My vote would be the EF.. |

I own a AW yak and I have to say it looks great on the outside but the quality of wood used is very sub standard. When the landing gear collapsed from a very gentle landing I called AW about the problem and they basically just blew me off. So my opinion of AW is

I have a Aw Extra 260 ,have flown it for 3 years now. I "had" a EF Yak, sold it. AW quality is second to none. Plus I dont know if EF ever solved their incidence problem with their Yak. ( read the EF Yak thread) I had to have the ele trimmed 3/8 of a inch up to get it level in flight. If you spend 650 bucks on a plane you shouldnt have to hack on the fuse and stab to get the incidence right. Thats why we buy arf's. Like I said AW quality is top notch , way over the EF planes. But the EF "cult" on here will surely disagree with me. I wont get into the peeling of the clear coat on the cowl or the poor fiit with the wings to fuse or the canopy fit. So, heres my opinion.... Get the AW Extra!........Flame away EF lovers!

No fire in my words man. As you can see, already in this thread, there are those who have had bad experiences with AW as well. It's all personnel and subjective. I prefer to do business with smaller companies, PAU, EF, 3D Hobbies and the like. Seems more personnel when you call them up and are talking to the owner/designer. Buy what you like, the choices in the 50cc market are unreal...................

Yep no ARF is perfect. There's always something that's not perfect. As far as incidence issues, they are very simple to fix. An incidence meter, a round file, and some epoxy is all you need. No hacking at all...just file a few thou and fill in the gap with epoxy. I wouldn't sell a nice plane over something you can fix in a half hour but that's just me. Think how much effort it took to sell the plane...much more than to fix the incidence issue. But I respect your decision as it was your plane to do as you please with it. Not mine to tell you how to do your things. Honestly. No flame !!!
