Default AeroWorks P-51 - So What Do You Think ?

Hello Fellow Pilots

So here are a couple of shots of AeroWorks P-51.

Here is what AeroWorks is saying about it now (they are still working on the prototype):

Sample specifications
Wing Span 86”
Ready to fly weight 22 pounds
Engine DA50cc

I have always wanted a War Bird, and have always wanted it to be a 'Mustang'.

Any thought's on powerplant or things to watch out for when considering a warbird?

My only other gasser at this time is one of AeroWorks 90-120 Yak QB's. The rest of the hangar consists of glo planes - anything from the Twist (40 and 60), Ultrastiks (40 and Lite 120) to my slightly modified Sig 4 Star120 which hopefully resembles an AirTractor and simulates a slurry bomber

They are shooting for a March roll out and I guess some of you might have seen it while they had it on display at the booth during the AMA show.

Thanks and I'll be watching to see what you guys have to say

This is one sweet plane.
Sliding canopy. gear and door sequensers...INSTALLED....retractable tail wheel...cockpit...made for a DA-50...What else could you ask for in an ARF? I hear it flew very well.
I'll have one when they comeout.

Nice LOOKING plane, but 22lbs for a 50cc bird is WAY too heavy, will have typical war bird characteristics. JMO

dude,, there's such a thing as too light... besides, this is a warbird. If you want to torq roll it inches off the deck, why don't you post a build thread the way "The Man" did with his Hanger 9 260.....

Nice plane Aeroworks!

I hope it is under $1800. It comes with all the gear, valves, sequencers, and gear door cylinders. Plus it is QB.

Geez guys....I said it looked good, but the fact remains that if the warbirds were lighter they would fly better. Or should I say lighter wing loading......however you prefer it.
And 50%, I dintsay it had to be 5#'s or something, I just stated 22#'s for a 50cc plane is way to heavy, it doesnt matter what type of plane it is.
No need in getting out the tomahocs out guys, Im on your side....lol..lol

A lighter plane dampens out turbulance faster and more effectively than one with more mass, it doesnt get bumped around in the air more, and it penetrates just as effectively also my friend, read up on reynolds numbers, you can google it.....No need in getting out the tomahocs out guys, Im on your side....lol..lol
Mikey warbirds fly like a$$ when they are to light. Got to have the inertia to really get them looking good and stable. The Top Flite P-51 I had at the Heatwave is 22 lbs with a Fugi 43. It flys great and still lands in a respectable distance.
Your kidding your self if you think that a 15lb P-51 is going to be more stable than a 20lb one in 25mph gusting winds. The idea behind a warbird is to fly it scale. You know look just like the full size airplane. With out some mass that is very difficult to do. I use to think like you are on scale flight until I tried it. There is a lot more pilot skill happening than you think.

Especially in the tree's...lol I agree that it doesnt have to be 15#'s Jason, and we both know that the pilots are usually the cause of them stalling on landing. We've had these discussions many times. Even if it was lighter and over powered, the PILOT could still fly it in a SCALE manner...c'mon Weve seen warbirds do things they wernt meant to do .
And if there is a difference with warbirds than other types as far as wing loading goes, im game for being wrong and learning something new.
On a lighter note, are you going early to Dallas or just the week end? Have you and JN discussed flying in any more?

You're kidding right? Robart-style retracts installed(including tailwheel and doors), sequencers and valving and tank installed, aluminum hub wheels, and Aeroworks quality and the "QB" trademark...
This plane obviously isn't for you. It will be in the $1200-1500 range

Looks like another winner from AeroWorks! All the hard work is done! I love my aerobats, but I will always have a soft spot in my heart for war birds. Keep the new products coming AWs! Mark, you guys are a huge asset to the RC community. Sleepy, I would love to see one of your mfg profiles on AWs. It would be fun to see how the whole process works in getting a new model on the market, from concept all the way through to product delivery!
