50%-

Again with all due respect the 85" YAK was already in the works but we knew we wanted to expand the 50cc line as was the reason and this is why we asked.. As I see it the reason 15+ companies are making it is because it sells and flies great and you have to have a base line. We did not have a true 50cc plane in the 88" and wanted to provide a top notch offering in this class.. The quickest way to market for us was to pear down the the 88" to 85" and incorporate all our newest up-gradeds into ther project and provide it to market. That is when I decided to ask for input from the community.

We do greatly value your input and will be speaking to our builders on these suggestions as they are watching this thread also and trust me when you a designing airframes you do not have alot of extra time on your hands. LOL But KH feels that it is very important to support the publics wishes in the builds.

I have just been a rc flyer for many years and now I own an RC business and I asked myself one day what would the hobby be like if I had been able to influence a builder on up and coming planes. We I am in that position now and have that ability and I want to see where it will go. I am sorry if this has upset anyone with this thread and again we are among the few I have ever seen ask.

As long as the airframes arent over built, and have good quality CRAFTSMANSHIP, it doesnt really matter what model plane you offer, the fact is everyone has their own opinion of what is right or wrong and cool or not. I personally like the Yak 54 and dont like the 55, I love edges and extra 260's but dislike the 300&330. Regardless, IMO you will have to offer a variety of models in different sizes as most companies do in order to make sales. Just make them STRONG and fairly LIGHT WEIGHT w/o the fuse twisting right out of the box,(ie.cross bracing) excellent cowl fit is a big thing. And one thing that drives me nuts is a poor finish on the wood BEFORE the covering is applied, it makes the covering jobs look like crap. A good sanding job with at the least 400 grit makes a HUGE difference in how the finished covering appears. Plus it helps the covering adhear better, and we all know that most of the time a plane is sold on looks alone, or reputation for good quality. This is why I like my 40% SD Yak so much, the plane was sanded beautifully smooth(I got it ARC) and the plane was well thought out, it was fairly light and built very well, and now the two brains behind SD is now Pilot RC and I have seen a few of these and the same+ quality is still there. Also offer your models as ARC's, alot of people would like that, myself included. And maybe offer the arf in kit form, meaning the laser cut kit not assembled. There would be interest in this too. And last but not least, reasonably priced for that class, some dist. are extremely proud of there toys. But then again the mark up in this industry is sickning, but thats a whole nother book...lol
Good luck in whatever you choose to do DeWayne, I'm sure it will sell regardless.

As to the plans on the board now: I know the YAK has been done to death (some good and some bad) but we wanted to take a stab at one also..

How about 85" / 10.02 lbs airframe ready for gear / 1650 + sq? / CF tubes / pocket hinging?

What would this do for the market?
IMO, the w/s could be a few inches longer. H9's is like 89".
What would the ready-to-fly weight be?
What would the fuselage length be?
Is it a "quick build" version?
The 1,650+ sq. in. is killer!

I'd like to see a 50cc version of Nigel Lamb's MXR TECH MXS done in the yellow Breitling Red Bull Air Race scheme. Make it near accurate scale, meaning leave the rear stab up high like it belongs ... instead of dragging the bottom of the fuse the way some designers do it in order to put the stab in line with the main wing. Use the Air Race version cowl with the 3 circle ports for air intake instead of the standard MXS's rectangle air ports. Oh, and make sure the aero exhaust pan is there too. Ever seen this thing going through the pylons? .. talk about gorgeous!

as to the Fuse:
  • Fuselage Length: 84.25”
  • weight at 10.02-10.14 lbs assembled and ready for gear(plane only).. All up will depend on too many variables ..
and yes look at this Fast Build Pocket hinging process:

The Pocket hinging (all control surfaces) will connect with 1 single CF rod and make for a super strong and FAST connection.

Hey guys.. in regard to the Red Bull sticker and other companies...

I think it's more of a law suit issue than Red Bull wanting to squeeze the hobby market for loot.
think about it, in the WONDERFUL Sue happy world we live in, a 40% airplane drops radio contact... flys off and auggers itself into the side of some guys house and the wheel pants continue on and hit the guys dog.
Guess what.
The airplane manufacturer, the engine manufacturer, and if the graphics were on the plane RED BULL now gets sued.
Granted it's unlikely the law suit will pay, but why take that chance?

I'm sure that is why they are so strict with the sign companies making the logos.
