Elie, if you are considering the li-LEAD batteries, you might as well just get A123's...cheaper(less than half the price), lighter, no regulators needed(save even more), won't catch fire, you can fast-charge them, and you can abuse them.
Nick, I will be doing the A123.

You need to get sensei working on that thing. He could probably get it down to 80lbs.

Elie,

Showed my wife the pics of your new toy and her response was, "That looks like a divorce in a box!".

The next thing she said was, "What does he do for a living?".

So I think we need a Meet the Flying Giants report on Snap-A-Saurus, what do you think SleepyC?

The only reason it would be a divorce in a box is because she's views it as a threat to her own shopping sprees. Silly girls.....

MadDog, I may not say it but I pay my dues especially when I get new plane and I have paying since I got this One, as for what I do, I have a graduate degree in structural engineering but I am now self employed in the car export business, I export cars to Africa and the Middle East ( a lot of cars) now that's the legit stuff.

Just kidding about the last comment.

You absolutely seem to have no idea what you are talking about! Did you see his set up?

He is using a powerbox that has built-in regulators! That PB can be set to have 7 volt or 5.9 volt output, he can never get the 7v option. Also he is not saving regulators!! Maybe in your book and limited vision A123 is the best of all. So be it! For many they want to feel comfortable checking the status of their charge on a plane that size! Can you do that with A123 without guessing what you drew last flight?? If you flew exactly like previous flight or you did more snaps and flew longer?! Plus PB doesn't show the mah spent as accurate as it should. So you will end up UNDER using the battery to its capacity or maybe loose a plane for pushing the limit! Talking about taking abuse, you can take a LIMN battery to no voltage status and charge it up to full capacity! I bet you never even had one to try or test! A 4400 LIMN weighs 11.2 and 4600 A123 12oz, that means for 12oz of LIMN, you will get 4714 mah capacity they are almost identical weight. One provides and maintains HIGHER voltage than the other at all TIMES during a flight! and for a person who buys a 60% plane with best of equipement available $50-$200 difference here and there is nothing for him to worry about. Whatever he buys, makes no difference to Duralite or A123 or any other company. It's the matter of him choosing the right components for his plane. Duralite has all kinds of batteries including A123. I use LIPO,LION,LIMN and A123, every single one of them have advantages and disadvantages, for his set up and application his Best bet is LIMN for his application whether he uses them or not! He's been long enough in the hobby to choose for himself Also at 7v, he can provide more amps to 17-18 starving servos than at 5.9v. For his set up A123 makes no good sense to me but its his plane and I am sure it will still fly with A123 although the discomfort will always be in the back of his mind.

I even would worry about him overloading the system by drawing more than 40 amps which can easily happen but its his choice and he knows his style of flying more than me!

Tell me, why would you encourage the use of these batteries when there is LITERALLY ZERO advantage to them over A123's, and the only advantage to them over lipos is that they don't catch fire and you can fast charge them - but you still need a regulator, and they are the most expensive rx battery on the market. And they are heavier than even A123.
The only people I see pushing those P.O.S. batteries are people that are sponsored by duralite.
Elie, if you are considering the li-LEAD batteries, you might as well just get A123's...cheaper(less than half the price), lighter, no regulators needed(save even more), won't catch fire, you can fast-charge them, and you can abuse them.

I actually went to school for drafting (CADD) and started the engineering program but got burned out at sitting at a computer for 12 hours a day working on projects. So I got on the FD and never looked back. love it!
how long did you work as a engineer?
