Sorry, I just noticed this thread, so I'm a bit late with my input. Let me put this battery debate to rest once and for all...

Install a single 24 volt deep-cycle lead-acid marine battery and be done with it. Advantages:
  • You can fly for three months between charges.
  • Amperage draw is a non-issue, draw whatever you need without worry.
  • Your back-up battery can be used as a stooge for start-ups.
  • better wind penetration.
  • Easier CG adjustment with only slight changes in location.
  • The set up to use this as a portable arc welder is really simple.
  • And there are many more...

Just make sure you locate the end of the vent tube aft of the rudder. Battery acid is tough on Oracover.

I can't believe that a community with this depth of knowledge didn't come up with this solutione befor now. It's sooo obvious!

Just hang around the docks and look for a guy named "Vinny." He will insist on cash <wink>. The cost will depend on how hot... er... charged-up it is. Brand makes no difference, they're all made in a small factory in Hackensack, NJ and re-branded by retailers. I reccomended Vinny because he can set you up for less than retail.

Actually the motor is equipped to accept a generator, not a bad idea and might as well equip it with an air refueling system this way we can stay up as long as we want.
In case you're wondering about the giant motor mount holes, well actually there are some rubber inserts which reduce the size down to One Centimeter and that's really big.
For comparison the 1/4 inch we use to mount our 150 is equal to 0.625 cm.
