Ya think that dinky little rudder horn will stand up to all the loading that huge rudders going to put on it without bending or worse snapping?????
Dont forget the thread reduces the horns diameter considerably. I would opt for HTS. |

You know... I think back to to July of 07... just a few years ago and this story was simply untouchable:
http://www.flyinggiants.com/forums/f...about-fly.html Now.... you can buy a 60% airplane that will be UNDER 100 lbs. Simply WOW.... Can you imagine if the car industry moved that fast?

HTS = High Tensile Steel but my point was more related to the vast size of the model in relation to the commercial availability of links sold for models far smaller than this one. I dont think the likes of Dubro or Nelson for example have ever conceived a model of your size would ever exist and prolly havent designed a load factor into the product that can deal with what yours will produce. Is it enough to rely on the name of a brand that has excellent products designed for lesser size models? Lets face it yours blurs the line between full size and model doesnt it? Looks like you have quite a bit of bare studding distance between the rudder and ball link connection and thats where it will stress most. You could sheath the bare studding in CF tube filled with epoxy or replace the stud with the same dia but using HTS (easiest option) just like the hex bolts used for ball links which are the same high grade shear resistant material and not some malleable low grade CS. Dont mean to make you edgy on this. Guess we are all eager to see this project come off flawlessly as you are and would hate to have sat here thinking what i mentioned but not have said if the worse situ happened ya know?
HTS studding wont add weight to any degree but it sure would be a fit and forget solution. Full threaded hex bolts of the same size as the studding cut down would be perfect. Maybe I'm just being overly cautious Last edited by MODE 1; 02-24-2009 at 11:50 AM. |

Better safe than sorry with this amount of investment. All of the videos i've seen of Snap flying is he is not easy on an airplane and I don't see this one being any different.
