Tikka, please feel free to post any info on the Ultimate.

I lost One aileron servo already while programing the extra, not sure what happened, I installed 5 servos on the rudder but it seems that 4 are more than plenty at 7 volts and since I need to replace the aileron servo, I will use the Fifth rudder servo, I also noticed that the 8711 servos were getting warm, I am using the H9 current meter to get the lowest current drain possible, I also discharged the batteries to below 7 volts, I hope I did not damage them, they are charging now.

My goal of weight is 132 lbs, ready to fly. Many builders in Norway and England, think I will end up with a weight, twice as much as that. They say it MUST be that heavy, or it will fall apart during flight. Well, we'll see. Planning on using 2 Seikos pr wing half, 2 Seikos for the rudder, and 8 400oz/in servos on the elevators. I was planning on using a 3W 520cc 4 syl engine, but will not decide before I know a little more about the weight. But I'll keep you updated, and maybe start a build thread here at FG.

Back to you, Elie

waoh, i never new 3w made a 520cc engine.

random binding anywhere by chance? is it possible that leaving the servos on for a long period of time at such a high voltage, with no load on them, could be causing them to fail/get warm? i know that seems unlikely since in flight they would be drawing power causing them to get warm but im just mentioning ideas.

call up horizon and ask. did you say all your servos were getting warm?

I've never heard of it either, but there is a guy who works in the norwegian army, flying drones, who says they use 3W 520 cc on the Banshee Drone. He wants to sell me an engine.

Ok, the plane is 99% ready but I am having some issues programing the Powerbox, got all the servos matched and programed through the radio but I am reading some funny numbers and the Powerbox tells me my receivers are not working reading Zero yet I used the flight log and all is well, I am confused, I am also reading the regulated voltage as 9.99 volts and after few minutes it drops to 7.29 volts, any Powerbox expert here, what am I doing wrong here? thanks

Elie,

First of all you have not damaged the batteries, don't worry about that! They can go really low and be charged back but it's always best to recharge at 7 volts so you don't stress the battery.

Your PB showing 9.99 kinda concerns me, Looks like the regulators not working?! Change it back to 5.9 and see what you get. Also do you have load on the system when the screen shows 9.99, it is OK to show that for a second but not to stay!

On your receiver set up, if you don't do it right you will be running through one rx only. Have you assigned FS to gear channel for example? If you don't know how to do it, let me know and I can help you. By seeing the screen, I can tell you rx set up is wrong! Just let me know what you have done and I'll guide you through the rest.

Take Care,
Reza

Just a question:
If the 8711's are rated at max oz on 6v by JR why push them further and risk burnout on a higher voltage? why not reduce the voltage to say 5.8v and be assured you wont have in flight failure.
Don't JR pack a letter with their digi servos telling users not to over volt them?

I measured the voltage at the servos and it's about Half a volt less than at the Powerbox around 6.5, I don't remember exactly but it's no more than a fully charged NiCad or NiMh battery, otherwise I wouldn't do it, anyway I will be dropping the voltage to 5.9 to see what happens.

I think I installed and wired everything as suggested by the instructions and I assigned a failsafe channel and tested with a servo and it's working, I will play with it a little more on Thursday, I was hoping to fy it as soon as I get the prop, I will also drop the voltage to 5.9 and see what happens.
