I believe Tower has Coverite. Have you tried Solartex? Good stuff....Mighty pricey to do a G.S. plane in fabric these days. T.

I think the unpainted Super Coverite (Pre-Primed) was phased out long ago, when they shifted to 21st Century Fabric. IF you can find any you will be lucky!
They still make the 21st Century Fabric in many colors, including white. You could also try Stits Polyfiber Ultra Light, it is used in full scale applications. It is very good stuff and pretty light for our uses. You can get it through www.AircraftSpruce.com or a few other places. It should be around $8/yd for 60" wide rolls. Their topcoat system is also very durable and relatively easy to use. More info here: www.polyfiber.com . Last edited by BTerry; 02-13-2009 at 07:13 PM. |

Great Planes/Hobbico bought out Coverite quite a few years ago. Since then locating the uncolored version of Super Coverite has become impossible.

Use Solartex. VERY easy to apply. 10 times easier than Monokote or Ultracote. Use as is or paint it.

I have used solartex supercoverite, ligtweight aircraft, and 21st century fabric. The solartex is the easiest to use and did hold up the pretty good after a light clear coat to seal the fabric. Depending on how complex your scheme is it may be the easiest. If you are going for a complex finish or want custom colors, I would buy the lightest weight of fabric from aircraft spruce ( you do not need to buy the certified fabric) and specialty and attach it with stits or dope. All of the adhesive fabrics will tend to separate at the seams with time, if it is painted it will look like crap where the seam shows-unless your plane is predominantly white. Real fabric attached with dope and painted will probably hold up the best with time.

I used to cover everything in Silkspun Coverite. When they stopped making it I switched exclusively to film. Ultracote and Monokote....... Now all I have to paint is the Cowl, Pants and canopy frames.

Thanks, I have used the films in the past also, I just suck at putting them on, the fabric is alot more forgiving than the film coverings. I started this plane with monokote. They have changed it since I used it last which had been several years. It used to not stretch well but would shrink really well. Know it seemed to stretch well but not shrink as well. I like the 21 st cen. painted stuff but at $25.00 a roll its to pricey. I have enough to get this plane finished but will either have to live with the films or try the solartex. Thanks Again.
