OK, heres my first question...I bought a nitro T6 Texan used and the covering was in bad shape. I stripped it all off and found places that were repaired in the balsa. Do I need to get all of the monocote pigment off to bare wood? Ive never used monocote before ...is it transparent? All help will be appreciated.

Hello Rat Now
I recently had to change some monokote on a planes tail from red to white, a repair had been made and the CA used stained the balsa red, very carefully I sanded the area down to get rid of most of the pigment without changing the shape of the balsa. Almost all the red was gone, since the white was not the transluscent type of monokote, it covered very nicely. Unless the monokote you purchase says transluscent, you should be good to go. If you can, dont cover the area with a lighter color and the covering will hide the pigment very nicely. Ernie |

Hey thanks, the plane was covered previously with mostly white. It left 60% of the pigment on the plane when I removed it. I want to try and restore this plane and I need to fill some old attemps of someones body work. I plan on using silver as a primary color to simulate the T6 sheet metal look. Think I'll be ok with that??

Hey Rat Now
How about this... since you should remove the control surfaces to monokote those pieces seperately, how about trying some acetone to see if you can free the CA up (If it is CA from a repair) try it on one of the ailerons, worst case you need to get new ailerons to put on, but best case it releases the monokote and you're saving a lot of time trying to sand all that white off of the surfaces. Good Pic's and naw she ain't ugly, just needs some attention. Kinda like a woman! Haha |
