I would love to attend this year Myself. As the ad says If you love model airplanes, you owe it to yourself to attend the Grand-Daddy of 'em all (THE JOE NALL FLY-IN) Craven, I could use the cane myself. I have attended Joe Nall since 1994 not 96 just looked in the trailer. Warren Thompson or Johnson please help this old fart if I'm wrong. Was big dogs then with Frank Noll and a Young Mike McConville. Jason shulman was doing his first demo's. My son Ryan was 8 yrs old and Flying there and Jason Noll was 12 yrs old. Also 1st year of triple tree. Back in them days it was just (Mouth of the south) Bob Sadler... Biff no such thing yet in them years. And TEAM XYX didn't know his ABC's LOL!! ![]() ![]() ![]() Sorry Jason C. couldn't hold back.. And InBEV-AB BUTT LIGHT Mark Trent I think is on that Team Also never heard of him neither. What Happen to the Quaker Cub Mr. Pat H.??????? This Cub called Quaker had a half of a VW engine in it. Guys in them days. Dave Johnston from DA had first started 3w production. Big motor them days... 3W-120cc Next year someone built a Giant Like Lazy Bee (I MEAN GIANT) 75% maybe.... Next Year Pat Hartness had a 50% Extra 300, If I'm not wrong he had the motor made. was no big motors for that. My 3W-160cc was the biggest they sold then in USA. Back at the Heavenly Estates then of Mr. Pat Hartness, That's what us old farts called it, Pat every Year as always had a Spacial Giant Plane he had built or his friends had something spacial for Pilots every year. Just couldn't wait for the next year to see what monster plane would be there and who built it. I had a Ohio 43% Extra 300 with the 3W 160cc 1 year WOW!!! I'd like to post some pictures of the 96-98 Joe Nall maybe older than that. If Interested to get Pilots Pump up for who has never attended this Event. I know some of the people in these pictures GOD BLESS THEM have gone Home. But don't know how to do this. Jason shulman that year in 1 photo had won his first time, 1st place in the Masters. Alot of his family was shot in a group picture that year at Joe Nall. Pictures of Pat Hartness full scale planes. (Biff) Bob Saddler was just known as Mouth of the South then a Young man Yes BOB.... If interested Please help. Thanks ahead for your time Rich Mowery Last edited by RICH M; 02-21-2009 at 06:05 PM. |

This will be the 20th anniversary of my 1st Joe Nall, at the old field in 1989.
I can remember something like a 1/4 cub was a big plane in thiose days.

Woody63 how can I post pics of the Quaker? This thing if you remember was like 80% and half of a VW motor in it.
Warren flew it and my son at 7yrs old and chip Hyde and more people. They were logging the flights and I remember Ryan doing a couple spins. This thing look like a real plane in a spin. That year Ryan and Chip took off in somebody Dune buggy and they ran out of gas in the woods Chip Hyde come back and ask him were is Ryan? he is still in the woods with the buggy I need some gas we ran out, and they just made it back in time for chip to do his demo. Funny... |

As for the Quaker, it is still in the hanger at the new field, actually it was oulled outside the hanger in 07 and the engine was fired up. I was at the Nall the year they flew it, was awesome to watch. Also if I'm not mistaken the large Extra 300 you spoke about was the one that they designed a belt drive system and ran 2 D&B 51's in it. I remember looking at the setup in the hanger where the 2 engines were mounted low and had the drive line above them on the thrust line. It was always a treat to see what new project the crew pull out of the hanger each year, I was there the year the B25 flew, that is one of the most beautiful models I've ever had the pleasure to watch fly.

Got you.... I know now what your saying. You got it right on the Extra 300 that's it. Was the B-25 Mack Hodges ?Also the fuse broke in half one year on landing, Mac had to put it back together in the hanger for the next day demo. And it wasn't the first time this had happen to Mack either.

Thanks for the coment on the Giant Lazy Bee. Me and Kirby still plan to fly it again one day at the Nall. We need 4 rolls of 25 foot monocote, some batteries, and TIME.

Any Familiar faces or Planes in these pictures. Geeeeee!!!! Wish I had these yrs Back.
Are you speaking of Dennis Kirby & Deb. Forgive me if I'm wrong on Dennis wife name. Last time I talk to Dennis and his wife I think was last yr. at Toledo. Looking at the pictures again, Now I have the right Kirby in mind. And was Pats good friend, Kirby Mckenny. And I just noticed the Extra 300 of Pats has Tapered Ailerons. My Minds like a Fart, it last so long and it's gone..... Hope these pics turn out. Last edited by RICH M; 02-22-2009 at 09:31 AM. Reason: Last yr at Toledo |

The House of Mr. Pat Hartness seem like we could park a 1,000 cars in the front yard
For the evening dinner. Ryan was probably 10 yrs old in the post above flying for Ohio R/C an 28% Extra 260 with a G-62 on a JR 10SX not a 10SXII sponsored by McDonald's, ZENOAH I.S.C. Mike McConville helped him so much. And if I post pictures of Eddy Noble, Corky Hietman,Frank Noll JR, Bob Saddler, Jason Noll, and Jason Shulman, Chip Hyde, Kirby McKenney, Andy Kane and Pat Hartness Ect...Pat didn't look the same as I seen him in the AMA Mag. Painting the new 2.4GHz line tower. Here's a couple more pics of Ryan Flying Eddie Noble's Giles 202, Eddie Noble His hat is bigger than his head....I'd never go to no more Fly-In's. I couldn't Fly or sleep. Ryan's 24 now. Could I buy some Crystals for my 2.4GHz radio plaese...... Last edited by RICH M; 02-21-2009 at 11:06 PM. |

Could I buy some Crystals for my 2.4GHz radio plaese...... I'm so old I Fart Balsa Wood from Building.... ARF's were not very good in them days. What a great time to enjoy the R/C model Planes at this times.... ARF's has come light years farther. And George Hicks Playing with computer CD Electric motors I can now sit in my living room and fly from my Recliner... |
