It closes the throttle. Odds are the engine would shut off or continue to run at a very low idle. That will depend upon the engine.

Hey Al, I don't know if you saw this other thread, but I posted something that was a concern to me. Could you take a look and give me your take?

From the sound in the video and your description it sounds as though you have a lower bearing problem. The interesting part is that the play is only between the crank journal and bearing. That would indicate that the journal may have worn abnormally. A good test would be to open the back of the engine up, hold the crank still, and try and move the rod up and down. Anything but the slightest of play, and I mean minute, would indicate a problem. I would definitely contact the distributor about it provided the engine came with a warranty. Jedijody carries the 26 cc and could probably give you a more definitive answer. Clearance on these needle bearings is measured in ten thousandths of an inch with normal play around .0003" - .001". Hope this helps.

BTW: I dont remember it doing this at first, did I do something wrong at break in to cause this? I was using the 25:1 manufacturer recomended oil and the plug looks pretty good, maybe a bit rich. I ran it on a test stand like they said too. Unfortunately, this is my first gas engine, so my knowlege is as much as is shown on this page.

I doubt the fault was yours. Just every once in a while a bad one gets through!! Luck of the draw I'm afraid.

Al,
What type of fuel tubing do you run in your tank? The best I found came from Aerotrend. It was blue and did not get hard. Of course I can't find it anymore. The yellow stuff seems to get hard very quick. Scott |

I have used the yellow tygon from Tower hobbies for years and never had a problem with it hardening. You can also get Viton tubing from McMaster-Carr which is excellent. It cost more but is probably the best thing on the market as it is totally resistant to gasoline.

As I'm contemplating my first gas plane, this thread has been so very helpful. Thankyou Al for your informative experience. I wonder if taping the metering cover will void my guarantee though?

Never heard of it doing that. Where'd you buy your engine?

Haven't made the purchase yet. Just wondering what they'd say if I had to send it in for guarantee work though. If thats such a common problem with gas engines though? Why don't they take care of it in the factory? I'm just curious.
I'm completely new to gas engines and their potential problems. I remember losing the guarantee on my fox 74 when I turned the cylinder 180 so my exhaust would exit the cowl in a different spot.

Well 3W, O.S., and Brillelli engines do come with the mod, or a similar substitute, in place. Personally I would contact the place you intend to buy your engine from and ask them up front. If they told me it would violate my warranty I wouldn't buy from them.
