Sounds good, I'll give that a try once all broke in and see how she does. But this motor pulls harder with each flight!

What's the weight of the plane?? If it's around the 12 pound mark you could probably fly it quite well scale on a DLE-30cc.

If you just want to fly the plane scale then you should be able to get by with regular servos. Depending upon your radio, TX, and the setup of the plane itself, twin servos for the elevators versus one, pull-pull system for rudder, dual aileron servos, etc this will dictate how many servos and which type you will need. As far as how much you want to spend, well that's up to you. Is this a plane you want to keep for a long time or are you just going to use it as a trainer? Plan on stepping up to a bigger plane? If so you might want to buy high torque servos that you'll be able to use on the bigger plane. If available, it would be best for you to get someone locally to look at the plane and advise you on what you need. At 10 pounds the DLE-30 should fly the heck out of it. You might even get by with a good 26cc. I run Hitec servos, good quality and price, but there are many others out there. The thing is you probably don't want to put top of the line equipment into a plane like that unless you plan on using it further down the road for another plane.

Thanks. I think I'm going to keep it for a while. But it is my gas trainer. and it already
has dual aileron servos and a pull-pull rudder. It has one servo for the elevators and it also has retractible landing gear on a single servo Wat kind of radio or battery would u recomend? I would have someone look at it butI'm on a naval base in japan. So I'm kindof hard to get too. And wat do u meen by "tx"? |

Tx = Transmitter in RC jargon. If you are running a 2.4ghz transmitter then you'll want the receivers, Rx, to match your transmitter. If you are running 72mhz then you'll need a receiver with enough channels to run all of your servos. I would run a 6.0V 2400 MaH battery on the Rx and a 4.8V 1800 MaH battery on the ignition. I use nickel metal hydride batteries or NiMH. They don't develop a memory and last a long time. There are lighter lipo batteries but they usually require a regulator as you can't run more then 6.0000 volts on the ignition. The 6.0V batteries usually peak charge at about 7.2V and are too high for your ignition.

Great thread. Lots of good info.
I'm putting together my first gas plane and have only flown electrics. I need help with the electronics. I plan on using two a123 batteries. One for rx and the other for ignition. I'm having trouble finding regulators that accept input voltage less than 7 volts. I thought of using Castle Creations 10A BEC's for this but not sure it would work ok. Also, i plan on using an opto kill switch. Do I need a second slider switch with the rx kill switch? will my battery drain? AW Yak54 .90-1.20 w/DLE30, HS-985mg x5, HS-625 x1 |

For information on A123 batteries and their use in GS I would highly recommend you read this page from Bob Pasterello's site as he has done quite a bit of research on it. I would suggest that you regulate the voltage to your ignition with a step down regulator as they do not like anything over 6.000 volts.
http://www.rcaerobats.net/A123_INFO/...on_battery.htm With regards to the slider switch. I always use an RCats or Opti-kill between a manual slider switch and the EI. That way I have to throw three switches to get the EI hot. This gives me a triple layer of safety which I like. I believe you can get a step down regulator here. http://www.radicalrc.com/shop/?shop=1&cat=86
