The $439 wild hare extra is the best choice here. Mine flew freestyle/3d really good and with a da50 was 16 pounds 4 ounces.

Well try look at this!
http://www.oriononline.cz/Velox_Rev22.htm

I have one of those babies electric powered, AUW 6 kg/13 lbs 4oz!!! If you choose gas engine it will gain about 4-6 oz.
It flies like a dream, rock solid, nice and gentle untill you switch to 3D then hell brakes loose

You have to think about your parameters of what a 50cc plane is. A columbo anderson 28% extra is a 50cc airplane with an 84" wing and will be sub 16lbs. Then you look at todays 50cc airplanes with 87" wingspans weighing between 16lbs and 17lbs depending on set ups. Best bet is to look at the engine and see what it is capable of.
The Dawghouse Yak has come in at 16lbs to my pig at 17.5lbs and one at 20lbs (we are wondering on this one) alot of them use 3MM 53cc, DL 50cc, DA 50cc, 1 with a saito radial, and one getting a lightened G-62. So far the only lack of unlimited vertical has been the Saito. That doesn't mean they will do everything at half throttle just that the weights are inline with the airframes and design.
So I would post the engine, and any specs you have on it so people that might have experience with a similar one can help steer you in the right direction.

Strange people ask for info about an IMAC legal plane under 16 lbs, I link to a plane that will be HARD to get UP to 16 lbs, but no reaction at all, You guys are strange looking only at your bellybutton and not for some magnificant flying machines.

That's pretty funny right there

(But that is a sweet Velox, too bad the site isn't in English.)

Hmmm site is in German - English and local, hmmmm

Best part of Orion is, when you order your plane, you tell him which engine, servos etc you gonna use and it is made accordingly without extra cost.

The 2,2 Velox is about 350 U$

Great Planes 27% Cap 232.

This fits everything you are asking for, cheap and a great flyer. I flew one of these for several months with a DL-50 and it was awesome. You can pick it up for about $325 with the deals that Tower is having right now.

Once you have the engine running good, stick it in a PAU Sukhoi

I fly a smaller Velox right now. It is my favorite plane by far. I run a YS110 in it and I have retrimed it and it will by my IMAC plane for Basic this year. Totally great plane. I tried emailing Orion to get some info on their Velox and they never got back to me. I would have for sure bought this plane in a heart-beat. I love the way the Velox flies. Send me a pm with some contact info.

Guys; all these suggestions are great but I went for Ryans Midwest Extra, with servos. Don't even have to use my own and the price was right. I didn't mention the name of the engine because it seems to always start something. I will say that it is being tested by a few of the giants with good results. But the day I got it, a friend who also has one did a little damage to his brand new Suk because of a dead stick. So I decided not to use it on the airframe I was thinking about getting until it proves itself to me.
As far as how I choose my airframes, well I start with the powerplant. Always have. The 50cc size airframe is about as big as I can go for reasons of space, transport and the allouance I give myself from my Social Security check. I am looking at the larger airframes in this size class and will more then likelly be going for an engine in the 60cc range but who knows. Things are changing so fast in this class that by the summer who knows whats going to be out there. Anyway, what I was hoping to happen when I started this thread happened and I am a happy camper.
By the way, I fly the Velox because I wanted something a little different then what everyone else was flying. Little did I know what a sweet flying plane it is. One of the best flying airframes I've ever had, and I've had quite a few in my 50 years in this hobby. To bad I have to go over seas to get one...............................

AHA!!!!!!!!!!! I was hoping to hear that. I talked to Mr. 3dhobbyshop last year and was told the Velox was on the board. I put that little hook at the end of my last post hoping for a bite. I can't wait to see the finished airframe. Knowing the quality of other 3dhobbyshop products I'll bet it is going to be a killer plane.

I don't have any pull or anthing like that. I have just been poking at him every time I talk to him about a larger Velox.
I just got a 87" SHP that is going to get a custom airbrush scheme and should still come out around 16lbs when ready to fly. Wanted something a little smaller to be able to go flying after work easier.

Well I got the impression that it was going to be smaller then the Slick and SHP but still a 50cc rig. Would have killer power to weight ratio with a lite engine. And if he sticks to that thin airfoil, oh baby, it will be a good one.
