Default Help for building Pitts Biplane

Hi All,

My pitts biplane after two weeks building is nearly done. Just need to put the head cover on and fine tune the CG with battery. But I had some little problems. I will upload some photos bit later on.

No. 1 When I try to put the head cover on I found it was blocked by landing gear from back
and I can not put adaptor on since the it will rub against the cover. Can I use scissors
cut the cover from back end and make it shorter? The cover was made by fiber glass.

No. 2 How to install a back wheel on the body? It only come with a crook steel stick to hold the
tail but I guess it is too weak. I ready have some spare wheel and steel stick.

Thanks in advance.
Attached pls see some pictures.

You can just use a dremel to cut slots in the cowling so it can slide over the landing gear. Wear a mask so you don't inhale the fiberglass dust.

As for your tailwheel, I think the steel stick is intended to be a tail skid. It should be pretty simple to retrofit a tailwheel assembly in there.

One of these! A dremel is an adjustable speed rotary tool with a bunch of useful attachments. With a dremel, you basically use the proper bit to grind the cowl away until you get the correct cowl fit over the engine, exhaust, or in your case, landing gear. It's a great investment if you're gonna continue to fly planes with cowls.

Yea, I'm assuming that a "head cover" means cowling based on the pictures and the "made of fiberglass" thing...
