Ok, first I don't want to hear "it can't be done."
Screw that, don't let the door hit your butt on the way out if that's what you think. Ok, that's the only rule. I have two little pet dreams with this RC thing. I want a cross country my PTS mustang (got that figured out I think) and. . .(drum roll please) I want to do an air to air refueling from one RC plane to another. I'd like to solicit ideas on how to make delivery and recovery from one aircraft to the other work. I've considered pneumatic bladders to force feed into the other plane's fuel cell, I've thought about pumps (probably the best idea so far) So, whats the best answer guys? We have some top notch thinkers here with a lot of experience so lets brain storm. If nothing else its a break from other topics. This could be the You tube hall of famer. GIT SOME!

I smell a VR headset for the chase plane! Some sort of rare earth magnet system for the alignment. Could use one of those metal fueling probes and have it go into an o-ringed female on the lead plane's trailing hose with shuttlecock head on it (for flight stability). The RE magnets would hold them tight but could pop loose in case of emergency or if fueling was done. Could use an air cylinder for the movement on a low pressure regulator on a on/off valve (servo actuated).
Or something along those lines...LOL

For clarity we'll call the fueling plane #1 and the one needing fuel #2.
I was wondering about a badminton birdie for the trailing fuel line on #1. machine a plastic slug with a center drilled hole that the "*****" from #2 registers into. Think the air resistance from the birdie cone pushing against it would be enough to seal it? I guess the fuel tank in #2 needs to have a vent that can be opened/shut off so that the tank can fill quickly. It'll have to be separate from the one feeding the engine otherwise there'd be no fuel pressure right? |

It sounds like you need to first figure out the fuel being used. If it is a Gas plane you do not need to worry about normally pressurized tanks.

(He said *****)
I think the correct terminology should be "probe" and "receptacle".

and I am going to say "THAT AINT GONA WORK" just to pis$ you off and get you more motivated. I think you can do it. Plan your trip through NC so we can get you a fan club going

Hi I'm late to your post, (1) Clippard, valves,Cincinnati Ohio.(2) Numatrol,Highland Mi. both well have controls that can be used for your idea. I would think gravity well help you move the fluid, a (1) one or two psi check valve can hold back the fluid. I would use outside air pressure to move the fluid, also if an air scoop raised to open air to the tank. it could shut off the flow too. Then let mother earth do her thing. Hydraulics feasible but not practical

OK...if we're gonna go "out there" where no rc pilot has gone before...why not throw in an air-to-air recharge of the flight battery...

I like the magnet for alignment idea, however, if you're gonna use a PTS Mustang, aren't you gonna get tired of refueling every 15-20 mins, and what about the support aircraft?
Fill us in on the logistics!!

Those take quite a bit of pressure. They actually have a screw on most called a luer lock to make a seal. The ones without are a real PITA to use.
