I have owned many different ARF,s , wood and plastic . There is a big difference between flying an ARF and a Kit built plane , Kit built planes fly better ..You do spend a lot more time building them , but you will not show up at an event and see 6 planes exactly like the one you have . Kit built planes also seem to have a personality ..I have not had any experience with Dalton , I fly Godfrey's and Love how they fly . Here is a pic of the Extra that I am finishing up for my 8yr old son ..

The DA 85 should work fine, but I'd use two servos/wing.

For the price of a can just throw a pipe in it (about the same). You might have to modify the fuse unless russo has it setup for a single cylinder engine pipe.

Not trying to be smart here, but everyone says how much better a kit fly's than an arf, can someone shed some light on why this is? weights seem around the same. as do wing areas. is there a difference in airfoils or something that makes it fly better? fly better how? better tracking?

Not trying to be smart! i have never had the pleasure of owning a carden or dalton or such! have though about building a kit many times, but cant justify the cost and time! also if they fly better because of the builder, surly there would be plenty out there that fly bad? many chinese assemblers have far more experience than many builders as they do it all day everyday!

someone please help me to understand what i'm missing!

If you did not build it yourself it is an ARF. ARF's are kit built planes also. Just built by someone you do not know. It boils down to kit design but mostly the guy on the sticks.

Trust me, AJ or QQ could probably still kick your butt in competition regardless what airframe they are using.

Pride in ownership is a whole 'nother matter. "cookie cutter" planes are mostly just coverings.

If you build it the way YOU want it you will be happier (maybe) with the plane. Kit built depends on the builder.
