I was looking at Tower and came across this plane again. Can anyone tell me anything about it? At $209 it isn't bad. I might get it. Any mods or thoughts?
Thanks, 50%

I've had acouple of them. Fun airplane! Awesome tumbles. I think there's still after market fiber glass cowl and hatch available. I would go with a 80cc single. It would STORM!! I flew them with 4.2 singles on glow. YIKES!! Honest flying airplane. Only down side is it's not too great in knife edge. Don't expect a knike edge loop. But for the price it's hard to beat. Builds easy too! Go for it!

I had one with a ZDZ80 single and I had a blast with it. The mods I did was a glass cowl and replaced the rear ABS turtledeck with a foam and balsa turtledeck

I have a flying buddy that has one built light that 3d's well with a Brison 3.2. No telling what it would do with a 4.2 or 4.8. But keep it light. I believe that foam and balsa parts are still available from Bob Godfrey to replace the heavier ABS crap that comes with it.

Does anyone know how much the gear weighs? Anyone replaced it with CF? if so, how much did it weigh.
Thanks 50%

Good plane! I have one with a 4.2 on it and it flies great mine isn't much on 3D but it could easily be modified. The kit comes with 1/4 inch plywood sides that need lightning holes. The ABS turtledeck has to go. Godfrey has the foam the last time I checked. The gear is no heavier than a Lanier Extra. Mine weighs 19lbs with smoke. Everyone who has ever seen mine fly commented on how stable it flies. Biff is right knife edge is real sloppy. Other than that go for it bud.

I've had two of these planes and they both fly very well... mine have had G-62s on them with the Ralph Cunningham electronic ignitions...
The first one did fly knife edges very well.... the second one did not...?? The first was scratch built from a Lanier kit... the second was the ARF. Only problem I had was getting the cowl on and off with an inverted pitts muffler on the G-62 ... you have to be part Houdini ... !! Larry |

lol I've thought about using the G62 if I did build the plane. That or a ZDZ80.(old style) (If DA had the 75, it would be my choice though.) How was the 3D performance of the plane with the G62?

Well, with the G-62 ... it's more like 2D ... but pretty smooth performance for IMAC ...

I've got a friend with 2 of them. He modded both kits, and both fly awsome. The first he just modified the aileron, rudder, elevators. Strapped a ZDZ 80 to the nose....and it's a great plane. Crazy verticle and will so anything he asks of it. The second the lightened as much as he could, and went with a G-62 with electronic ignition on the nose. Again, unlimited verticle, and believe it or not, he likes it more then the one with the ZDZ 80. It flies much lighter and it that much more of a joy to fly. It'll do anything you can dream up. With it being lighter, it performs the manuvers that much better. The G-62 is easy starting and dead nuts reliable. Great combo and cheaper than some of the other routes. You won't be disappointed if you decide to build this plane.

Thanks! I was planning to drop maybe 5 pounds off this plane if I built it. I was reading on RCU about it and someone built it at 15 pounds with a DA50!!!!!!
