Default Membership Management Software

Anybody out there using some simple membership management software? We have everything on Excel, but it would be great if there were a (not too expensive) program out there to handle membership data, dues payments, etc. so we could easily track who has paid, who owes, etc. Maybe with email addresses we could send out club emails, etc. Any idears?

I did a quick search and there are quite a few available. Some free, and some are very inexpensive "share ware". You can try most of them out for free. Here is a link to a a good list of them. You should find what you need.

Like you say, Excel is the standard. I use a Bold highlight to indicate paid/not paid, insert comment to add notations and one column in for email addresses! I initially used a tab for different years but since went to a separate file for each year. It is easy to copy a row from one year to the next so that I don't have to retype the data!

With anything less than a 100 members, it's just not worth the effort to use a real database or special program. Besides, almost everyone can do read an excel file!

I use Quicken for the financial portion of my Treasurership duties (also use Quicken for my own personal checkbook)!

If you're talking about exporting the whole row and putting that into an email just put the cursor on the row number that you want to "export" and left click on the mouse to highlight the row, then right click and choose "copy". Then open your email, type your message and right click and choose paste.

Excel also has a mail merge function that you can use to perform for mailing labels but you have to use Word in combination to do the merge. The best way to get instructions is to put the cursor on "help" and left click on the mouse, put the curson on "Microsoft Excel Help" and right click. You will see a number options so pick the one that you want and go from there. Do the same procedure in MS Word to see what Word requires.

Good luck,

Bobby

I also use Excel to track membership. I have a column for email addresses that can be clicked on to generate the emails.

Excel is a very useful tool and easy to manipulate. It's hard to beat.

Excel is fine for spreadsheets. But I'd rather use a database app for club membership. I inherited a MS Access db from the former membership chairman. As a database developer I've been cleaning it up and creating a better front end. A database allows more flexibility, IMO (multiple addresses, historical data, easy email linking, roster reports, etc.).

To me using Excel for this purpose is only marginally better than using paper ledgers.

I would like a copy of the program as well. I agree that for multiple years the Excel file method gets messy and is somewhat hard to maintain. Since I have Access I would be interested in trying out your program.

My email address is: bobbyleejr@bellsouth.net.

Thank you.

Ditto, if you please. Shoot, I could probably get my club to pay $5.00 for it
