I think I read somewhere that Andrew seems to like that setup. However, I will defer to the man himself for the play by play description.

I am running the MTW RE2 pipe in mine with a DA50/Menz 23x8 Combo. Awesome setup! Couldnt be happier with the way it came out. Super light and floaty, and plenty of power. Mods were simple. Push out the back of the pipe tunnel, mount a pipe mount to the bulkhead at the front of the turtle deck, mount a second pipe mount to the supplied can mount (centered, and install the can mount. Open the two bays for an exhause exit. I added an airdam to help the air flow out. Simple as that. I also raised my rudder servo slightly to give it a little extra space from the hot pipe. Simple mods, took less than an hour.
I uploaded this video several weeks ago when the airplane was brand new: http://www.flyinggiants.com/gallery/...hp?photo=59682 Or, if you want to hear the motor on the pipe without the music... here is a version w/o music:

Great flying plane John! Thanks for the info on the pipe, on your set up are you using a flex header or solid and is there a drop or straight?
Scott

I do, no prob with me. It's plenty thick, and it's nylon coated.

Maiden Flight with BME 58
Man , i don't even know what to say. I had 4 perfect flights today on the slick. After the initial take off , i ended up giving it 2 clicks of up on the elevator....and that's it! No rudder or aileron trimming was need , and it flew as strait as you could possibly want. Most all my flight we're down in the low rates ( actually more like a middle rate) and this Slick is so stable it blew my mind. I have flown a few 25% - 35% birds before , and it is just as stable as the best 35% bird i've flown. That is almost unheard of in a 50cc bird! I did some slow harrier type flying and turned the thing around in about a 20' circle , and not once did it want to tip over , wing rock.....nothing! On my high rates , i took it up a little higher , and did just some basic snaps , loops and so forth....and HOLY MOLY! This thing will just about loop on it's damn wing tube! I have also NEVER flown an airplane that did a knife edge so effortlessly. It actually did all the small basic moves i threw at it like it was friggin' 40% Hovers : sheesh......i stood it up , and it just sat there. Hardly no movement on the sticks at all. The H9/carden yak I had was almost full right aileron in a hover to keep it from torque rolling.....the slick didn't need hardly any.....it just locked in! I was blowing backwards when she was strait up , because i did all the flights today in 15-20mph winds.....it was blowing pretty hard today. I was a little sketched out doing a maiden in it.....but that all went away just a few minutes into the first flight. On a side note , the BME 58 was a perfect match for this slick. It has awesome power to begin with , but on this slick , it really made it shine. You couldn't ask for a better combo! I'm going to play hookie from work one day this week , and i'm going back out to fly this thing....i can't wait! Ben....i am on my hands and knee's here begging , please , please , ( pretty please) make a 100cc version of this slick!! I will be the very first person in a long line that would buy this thing! BTW , i said "pretty please" there....did you see that? One last thing. A lot of you guys in here knew i was flying an H9/Carden yak before i got this AJ Slick. I can tell you right now , that there is NO comparison in the way these two birds fly. The Slick is so far ahead in every single way , it's actually pathetic. I'm not knocking the H9 yak here , because i know some guys really like theirs. The H9 yak is supposed to be one of the best flying 50cc birds on the planet , BUT , trust me when i say this , there is NO comparison between these two birds , and i have owned both and now flown both! I had 18 flights on the H9 yak , and could never come to terms with it , but it never could fit into MY flying style. The Slick....to me about 30 seconds into the maiden flight to realize it is the BEST dang 50cc bird out there today. IF everything else flies comparable to the H9 yak , then the Slick is a hands down winner and there aint nothing out there that compares to it. I don't know what else to say , except Thanks Ben and AJ for making this slick. I'm kind of still in Awe at the moment. I wasn't expecting a 50cc bird to preform like that. Can't wait to get an electric version of this sucker going! |

Jeff - Congrats and THANK YOU for the compliments. Andrew knows what he's doing, for sure.
Also, a new shipment of Red 89" Slicks is coming in about 3 weeks.
