Article by FG field reporter: Matt Mikesh Day

MAn-O-man Simply another Great Event!!!

The Gateway R/C'ers and the FFAA really put together a great event! The venue was perfect. The food was awesome. The flying was, well, look at the pics! It was as good as it gets! The storm system that rolled in on Saturday night pretty much eliminated our Sunday festivities but it didn't take away the fun we had the first couple of days! Everybody was just about ready to get a move on by the end of Saturday night because we just hadn't stopped the fun since early Thursday! It was sad to see everybody go but the fact that we will all be together soon under the Joe Nall skies offered solace to everyone!

There are several people that need to be thanked for such a spectacular weekend. First and foremost... Mr. Jeff Carte! This guy just never sits down! He is a terrific CD and believe me guys, it takes A LOT to put together an event of this magnitude! We were all pleased to see him have a little time here and there to get a plane in the air! The entire Gateway R/C member base that was there just made this thing run SMOOTH! The grills were always full of meat and the concession guys served people constantly.... And always with a smile! These guys were moving non stop to see to it that all of us travelers had everything that we needed! This is just a class act group of people!

Perhaps some of the biggest "Thanks" and "Shout outs" need to go to the sponsors that provided all of the great raffle prizes. After all, they are the ones that generated a lion's share of the money for the Children of Fallen Soldier's Relief Fund!!!! And by the way... that amount was a bit over $3500!!!! Way to go guys!
It is important to list the generous contributors here and we need to recognize them by buying their products!!!!!

I would like to close out this weekend by saying thank you to all of my FFAA buddies! It is an honor to represent your organization in the northern part of the country. This organization is much bigger than Florida guys! You have made a difference to kids everywhere! You are a great example of what groups in this hobby can accomplish while having the best time of your life! Thanks for all of the hospitality. I know that I can speak on the behalf of Flying Giants and the entire R/C community when I say....

Job well done guys! We all look forward to next year!!!!!!!!

That is a great picture! it only represents a few of us that were there but it still shows the "Big Happy Family" atmosphere that this event created!

i'm not quite sure what VooDoo is doing beside me in that pic... and that's probably a good thing...

Notice that Snoopy is the only one in the pic holding a TX... that is because this pic was taken right after his masterful tail dunk in the wading pool. all of the rest of us had been cheering him on and letting him have the sky to himself to "get'r'dun"!

Matt,
Is there a way to donate some money to the charity? There's companies like mine that really don't have anything to give away. I tried to work a deal with a half off build for any Dalton of your choice but the winner would have to send me a Dalton to build. So I scrapped the idea. Is it to late to send a contribution? Rob

My son Jay and I sure enjoyed "hanging" and flying with all of you. It was an awesome event for sure! And like I told Jeff Carte, the date you have chosen is perfect because your weather is usually awesome compared to farther north and people are "itching" to get their flying season started. When you combine that with the great flying site and fun folks, I expect this event to grow quickly.

Count us in for 2010!

I was still taking donations on Sunday from people who drove up to see if we were still there. Rob drop me an email or if you want you can donate directly to me or the charity and email me the amount and we can add it to our total.

Don't listen to Matt I was sitting down some, the reason he didn't see me sitting often was because everytime I sat down my eyes would close. I learned quickly from the guys from Rockford if you fall asleep in a chair something bad would happen. I've seen the pictures.

Thanks goes to Flying Giants for all the coverage and sending a field reporter, he kept us cracked up the whole weekend.
