I know you will get faster pull-out with it over the other two. Flies fine with the 23B but it just isn't quick on the throttle response and at well over 7000 RPM the 23A has plenty enough speed. The 23B is just a tad more load than I like.

The 22B works well too and actually spools up higher but the 23A has that "tractor pull" right now when ya want it.

I'll second that!!!

Jesus, gimmee a break !!!!!!!!! A guy with a 300 hp. engine running like crap would be impressed if he only had a 125 hp. before.

No way to know how it is running unless you tune it to the max. Low end top end doesn't matter. You have to find out where the limits are rich and lean amd put it where it needs to be.

what do you mean don't these engines have those ABL cylinders. you gota run the factory needles. and run it rich for like 10 gal, you know peak the rpm and drop it 500rpm. i mean common it's the factory they know, they pretune to your area

Yeah that seems to be the way some think.

We have folks on the other side too. Running super lean oil mix like 100:1 and tune max RPM on the high end and ONE lean run does them in and they asked what happened ?

Even though I run a 40:1 mix I do back off a "tad" from max just to insure that I don't have a lean run and cook it. At least I haven't "knock on wood " yet. I let the rich 32:1 oil ratio do my break-in.

Anyone wanna toss me $1700 so I can try out the Pilot 35% 260 and DLE 111 combo ? I promise I won't scimp and get cheap servos ! And I will be glad to give an honest no holds barred review of the engine. Honest.

I run a Mej 23-8 for IMAC and use a Vess 23A and a zoar 23 3D for 3D (what little I do). With my limited experience I like the Zoar 23 3D out of the three. My engine seems to tune and run better on that prop. Very little mid range burble and it pulls like a tank. I am not concerned (at this point about prop noise) I run the stock pipe. But one feild I fly at has some concerns about it and other large scale aircraft so I fly the other field more for now. Anyway back to props, I like the Vess in the performance but I need to lean the crap out of mid range to smooth out engine burble. On the IMAC side at high altitudes (I fly at 500 ft ASL.) Redmond and Idoho 1500 ft ASL. the Mej prop is the only prop I've tried and it does very well with smooth and consistant up lines. Both 3D props wash out and long uplines are a struggle.

Ok, I hope this is not a stupid question, but I have to ask. Why does the difference in props make a difference on the tuning of the engine. Maybe I'm not thinking all the way through this or something, but straighten me out.

By changing the load on the engine. It may require the mixture to be riched or leaned a little. The DA85 likes a prop that loads it down for example. If the prop doesn't load the engine enough the mid range is rich and can't be completly tuned out by leaning the low end. Put on a bigger prop and the problem goes away.

Watch those lights, they might be trying to trick you!

Alan,

That's the Hangar 9 one? Sweet looking plane!

I have a Wild Hare Edge 540 I bought off a friend of mine. He offered it to me for basically the cost of the engine. How could I say "no" so I bought it. Looking forward to getting it into the air.

Frank

No luck on the CM-6 NGK plugs here locally. I'll have to expand my search.

Look for anyplace that sells Honda generators. They will have CM-6 plugs but they will be packaged in a Honda box. The CM-6 was originally designed specifically for certain models of Honda generators.

Yep...I bought four (4) CM-6's for less than the price I paid for one at the hobby shop by going to the Honda dealer...

How long do these spark plugs last? What's the best way to tell that they are going bad?

Thanks,

Frank

Question on how to store your plane between weekend flights. Since my DL-50 is mounted on my plane with the spark plug down, should I store my plane upside down to keep fuel from pooling on the plug?

Thanks,

Frank
