Bill
Yes, it was to lean on the low end, but the midgrange was right on. The problem was that opening the low needle fixed the hesitation, but made the midrange fat. After bending the lever the problem went away.
Now the low needle is at 1 3/8 and the high is at 1 3/4.
And to your list I will add two more things:
1.- Wet the carb before the first run (may be obvious for some ones, but just in case)
2.- Check the hub nut tightness. Mine got lose after a backfire, and broke the woodroff key.

So far I am happy with the engine. I am more than willing to check this things, if I get a low cost, reliable and powerfull engine.
But I would´t recomend it for a newbie, unless it can get help from someone with experience.

Just to clarify, I bought the engine from my LHS, here in Chile, and they deliver the engines just as they came from the factory. To my knowledge, some USA dealers check and test their engines, so all these problems are detected and corrected before selling them.

Vacaman,
I missed your post that indicated your low needle needed to be out 3.5 turns. That really is extreme. I don't think out of 4 EMAS carbs I have ever been much more than 1.25 out even when pretty new.

Thanks for passing on your experience.

Good to hear, now you just need to work out the fitment. I used a dremal to reshape the back of the holder. Can the holder from the Melody be used to put the hall sensor from the Rcexl ign in? I was thinking maybe you can rip out the old one and drill a new hole in the Melody holder and then put the Rcexl one in....

Went through the lines, tank and filter and found nothing. Got the same result when trying to start. I then disassembled the carb and cleaned and inspected. Paid particular attention to the fuel pump membrane. Found nothing.

Well today tried to fire up the Old DL 100 after cleaning the carb. It fired up again on choke but then the same, would start the quickly go dead. I had the cowl off this time and realized that when I flipped the prop I could hear a sound seeming to come from the carb. Drained the tank took it into the shop and removed the carb. I pulled the Reed Block out and low and behold, one reed very worn on the tip and the reed next to it (same side) shattered. The 2 reeds on the other side look fine.

Everything else looks good guess I just need a new Reed Block.

Glad that you found the problem. Can you post pic's so we can see what the reeds look like?

That problem is not limited to DLE engines. American engines experience that from time to time as well.

Before attempting to remove the reed retaining screws use a soldering iron to heat them a little. They are thread locked when they were installed and attempting to remove them without pre-heating can strip out the Phillips slots. Might want to replace the OEM screws with a flat seating screw. The threads are metric.

Wonder why they are so worn on one side but fine on the other. Localized higher negative pressure on one side or the way the air/fuel flows through them? Resonant vibrations of the reeds with the air/fuel flow kill the one side's reeds? If the reeds each have their own cylinder sides, maybe the position of each cycliner being in slightly different locations does this? I don't know the orientation of the DL-100's reeds in the engine since I never took one apart.

Thanks for the information T.O.M. I was just going to replace the whole assembly. Looks like it is 20 to 25 bucks.

I'm trying to reach Jody at Valley View.

Weather looks good up his way today. Prolly out flying a new Cyberplate. If so, phones don't work well at his primary flying site.

Pressure differential in an offset opposed twin. The cylinder offset and crank rotation does some really strange things inside the engine. The only way to equalize distribution is to run an over/under intake system, but even that can get squirelly at different temps and rpm values.
