you should be able to get aw extra in around 16lbs. i freind of mine at the club i belong to has there extra 260 and he says it is at the 16lbs mark, and he has full can exhaust. i never seen it on a scale and it is 3 yrs old but it does fly light. and a guy that has there 35% 260 says that it flys lighter than his 35%er. the 3d hobbyshop slick with that motor and a tuned pipe would be a great combo. andrew jesky's video has the da 50 and canister exhaust and it flys awsome. huge wing area.

My friend, we have 3 50cc AW planes all under 17 lbs, I've never owned an EF plane but most I've read about are 18+. Advertised weights from both companies are almost identical. I would never say a bad word about EF planes, they are fantastic performers, but to say AW is not in the same class based on their weight.....don't think I would agree with that.

EF are bigger all around too so it's not apples to apples anyway.

I just got finished putting together an AW 50cc Extra. DL-55 w/ stock muffler, 7955's all the way around. I'll get it weighed and see what it comes in at.

Yes. The 88" Yak from Extreme Flight has a very big fuselage. Put it next to a QQ 102" fuse and it looks the same only shorter.

My dle-55 makes a small clak when you grab the spinner and rotate it back and forth. This is my first gas engine, so I don't know if this is normal. It runs very well, and seems to get better with each day. It idles reliably at 1600, and tops out at 7000 on a vess 23a. Does this noise pose any concern? Its almost like there is play in the bottom end or the wrist pin. I don't know. It has always done this.....I can remeber someone asking about it when I first got my plane in the air.

Any comments would be appreciated.

Without being able to hear the noise first it's hard to say. There have been several rod bearing failures with the DLE 111 so I pull the cylinder off and check it just to be sure. Does it do it with the ignition off? The only reason I ask is because if the ignition is on and you were flipping it back and fourth across the hall sensor, it you might be hearing the spark.

Yes, it does it without ignition. Its a much more audible noise than an ignition spark.....when wiggling the prop or spinner quickly back and forth.

They all do this at TDC but it just all depends how loud it is. It should be pretty quiet. If it is, totally normal. Without hearing it, hard to say from here.

Hmmm.....It doesn't seem to matter if its at TDC or not. Not very loud, though.

Well I guess I should re-phrase that to say anything away from the compression. If you're not hearing any unusual noises while its running you're fine.

without hearing it, it is hard to say what the noise is but some maybe normal. the ring will make some noise in the ring land and it is grabbing on the cyl wall and the piston is moving slightly. i heard a noise in mine also and i inspected it and thats what i found. bring the ring to the center of the exhaust port and wiggle the crank and see if that is the cause of your noise.

Mine makes a loud noise at 7400 RPM's and goes vertical like a rocket. I hope this is normal.

OK, thanks.....no bad noises while running, except that one that JoeAirPort mentioned.....but I have to put a 22x8 on to get 7400.
