Bodywerks said on his 100cc AW 260 the carbon tubes save 5 to 6 ounces.

You guys could save some weight on possibly switching over to A123 batts as well. There are guys who are flying 35% birds with only 1 - 1100mah pack. On my 35% sukhoi , i'm probably going with only one 2300mah and one switch. I'll use a 1200mah fromeco li-ion pack for ignition. CF tubes and landing gear would help also. Or does this bird come with CF gear? That CF gear helps a lot. heck , on my little Hangar 9/carden yak , the CF gear saved 6.5oz over the stock stuff.

Hey guys, This one looks pretty good accept for the weight. How do you get the pilot and or instrament panel installed if the canopy is already glued on?

The bottom of the hatch is open.

it flies fine in the video with the 85 so you guys on the 100 although heavier should be fine, if you go carbon wing tubes you will be lighter but your sure adding cost. Why not just build and fly before spending more, you may be surprised.

If they finish it for the Central California 3D festival I will weigh it for them there. It's a QB so they have no excuse to not have it done in the next 3 days. They live at sealevel - weight is of little concern for them...

Some of these guys are using 1.5-2+ pound power systems(rx, ign, switches, power expanders if used) and they spend a lot of money on them, like li-mag batteries, power expanders, regulators, etc. They could drop up to a pound or more and save hundreds of dollars. My 100cc plane is using just three A123 1100 batteries (I assembled my own for under $25, but you can buy them for as little as $27 http://www.rclipos.com/A123_Packs.htm ), a Fromeco wolverine switch, and Fromeco DC-up. The total power system weight is under12 ounces and cost under $200. IMO, going to carbon is worthless unless you take steps like this or are also taking a dremel to the plane.

You guys could also use a soda bottle for fuel tanks, that will save you 4-6oz. Cut out all extra stuff in canopy thats not needed, and if using stock muffs, cut out the extra wood for the tunnel. Use all aluminum servo screws, 50 for $10 aint bad. Tubes and gear.....

I've always wanted to try that soda bottle tank. What is the best bottle to use? and aluminum servo screws? Where do you get them?

Any approriate sized soda bottle will work just fine, IMO find the lightest one. A friend used a 16oz A&W bottle on his latest 35% creation. I will have to dig out an invoice to see where we get our screws, cant remember the name, they have any color you want.

Nail on the head Bodywerks, it baffles me why folk put all that extra weight in and then complain how heavy a plane is, If it aint needed why use it and that goes for the airframe too. I love it when guys put pilots and alloy spinners on to and then complain.

That soda bottle idea is great, will try that on my 100cc build.

So we are going to continue with the assembly of the 100cc Aeroworks Extra. We began the night with wrapping up the front end of the plane. The first thing we did was install the throttle servo and linkage. Aeroworks provides nice plywood servo boxes to assist in this installation.

We first identified the best location for the throttle servo, we then temp glued it down with CA, after establishing the servo linkage and checking the geometry we used aero poxy to secure the mount in place.
